What stopped this meal from being a 5 star was a suggested time for the prep. Luckily it was family, but, even with help it took much longer than I would normally have allocated.

As one of our most popular sharing menus and a real dinner party favourite, Japanese Izakaya Experience is a slightly more involved cook, especially with larger portions. We can appreciate how that may have felt like quite a lot, particularly because it was your first Cookaway experience.
We do have a wide range of menus to choose from, including some that are quicker and lighter on prep, so hopefully you’ll find something that suits the occasion next time.

The Malaysian Street Food package
The Malaysian Street Food package was a gift from my nieces. Ordering the package, when I had settled on a date, was completely easy, and the goods arrived on the correct day and beautifully presented. The ingredients were clearly of top quality. The instructions for cooking the four dishes were clear and easy to follow and the whole meal was greatly enjoyed by me and my guests.

Poor delivery & damaged goods.
Website easy to navigate and good options for delivery date. Contacted by DPD at 10.30am on delivery date to say delivery anytime between 7am-10pm which is ridiculous. There was link to tracking of delivery however this showed the van stationary for several hours about 2 miles from house so chose option to deliver to safe place but this was ignored and left at front door. When finally arrived the outer box was damaged, the rice bag has split and contents leaking from box, the eggs were broken. Potentially could have been a good culinary experience but ended up a costly make-do occasion.

Fabulous product
Fabulous product, great quality ingredients. Very generous portions and easy to follow recipes. We had A really fun time preparing and enjoying our Greek Meze. Will definitely do again.

I had the railway lamb curry and…
I had the railway lamb curry and biryani, very expensive for what I received and poor quality meat that was tough and not edible so ended up throwing it away because it was that bad. Due to the poor quality and price I decided to raise a complaint only to receive the message that I was the only one ever to complain about the quality and that I had cooked it wrong (I dont think they know that I was a chef). No offer of a refund of any type or credit. Disgusting customer service for the price they charge. They even suggested I purchased another one, I dont think so!!

We're copying below the email sent to you as it wasn't our intention to suggest that you cooked it wrong.
As stated in our email, the meat we supply is of the highest quality sourced from one of the top butchers in the country. When combined with the fact that we haven't had anyone complain previously about the meat being tough, naturally we were keen to get to the bottom of why this may have happened in your case hence our question re the cooking process.
We have supplied the product as promised hence there is no automatic right to refund. Our intention is to work with you to establish why the meal didn't turn out as planned and determine an appropriate resolution. We've already added £10 credit to your wallet which is available to use on any future purchases. Given this is a redeemed gift, no refund can be processed directly.

I’m sorry to hear about your experience with Railway lamb curry - especially with guests over. That’s certainly not the outcome we want when someone cooks a Cookaway meal.
It’s a little surprising to hear as this is one of our most popular menus and we haven’t had complaints of this nature before. Our lamb also comes from an award-winning family butcher, so the quality of the meat is something we take great pride in.
I was wondering if the lamb may have been cooked on too high a heat at the start? In step 1 the recipe recommends cooking it on a low heat, reducing to a gentle simmer, and keeping it covered. If the heat is too high, lamb shoulder can unfortunately become tough and chewy rather than tender.
That said, I completely understand your disappointment and appreciate you taking the time to let us know. You currently have £10 in your Cookaway wallet, which we hope you’ll use to try another menu with us - we’d really love the chance to give you a much better experience next time.

Japanese Izakaya meal, excellent
I received the Japanese Izakaya meal as a gift. While it takes quite a while to prepare (as you'd expect for 5 courses, each on their own wouldn't take long), it was excellent, easy to follow, thoughtfully packaged and the quality of the ingredients was superb (huge prawns, fillet steak). I learned a few things from cooking it and the guests I shared it with loved it.

We enjoyed the meal but the bottle of sauce was open so we only had half of it to use which spoiled it

Ordered meal kit didn't arrive on the day , hospital kept me in they were informed of impending hospital visit , when released I emailed them= nothing emailed again nothing ,
SO NO MEAL KIT AND OUT OF POCKET.

As explained to you, the delay was due to an issue at the DPD end which is out of our control.
The box was delivered to your address the next day in line with our terms and conditions however delivery was refused resulting in the food going to waste despite being in perfect condition.
Inspite of this we have refunded your order in full as a matter of goodwill and in the interest of resolving this for you.
