Total lack of clarity on add on add-on costs…
The lack of clarity on add-on costs after making a purchase, and their disinterest in telling customers, is really disappointing.
I won three bottles from their Dutch operation and was hit with £50 postage and then £145 import duty on bottles that cost me £240 in the auction. I knew about the insurance and
I absolutely would not have bid on these items had I known. It was an expensive lesson. Their information on import duties is vague and doesn't include example figures.
Their response to what is not a first time occurence was a shrug of the shoulders and we'll pass on your concerns.
I've just checked their web site and the information is the same.
My advice to anyone from the UK bidding on bottles based in the EU is to be aware of high shipping costs and very high import dury (it's based on the alcohol rather than the value of the bottle, so the duty is the same on a £50 bottle and a £5000 bottle).

Import and customs charges are set by local authorities and can vary depending on the destination, import laws and courier handling fees, so they sit outside our control. If it were possible to provide an accurate calculator or list of rates on our website, we would be more than happy to. However, with such a broad range of global shipping destinations and constantly changing regulations, it isn’t feasible to keep this information fully up to date. For that reason, our website notes that any local taxes or import duties are the responsibility of the customer.
We do take feedback like this seriously and will continue to look at how we can make international shipping as clear and transparent as possible.

Our auctions have included both UK and EU-based lots for some time. These are identified throughout the site with UK or EU icons, and hovering over them explains where each lot is located and advises bidders to factor in any applicable customs duties or import fees before placing a bid.
I’ve asked my colleagues to remove your email address from our marketing lists. If you’d like your account closed altogether, please reach out to our Client Service team so they can confirm and action this for you.
