Mortgage completed, not the best broker
**Mortgage completed, but I would not use Brightstar Financial again**
Despite ultimately completing a mortgage through Brightstar Financial, my overall experience was disappointing.
Throughout the process, I found the approach unnecessarily demanding, with excessive telephone contact and repeated pressure to deal with documentation. At times, the frequency and manner of the calls felt more reminiscent of an aggressive sales operation than a professional financial intermediary.
My particular concern was the way certain unsigned terms and remuneration-related documentation were presented as compliance requirements necessary to secure the mortgage. In my view, there should be complete transparency about the distinction between regulatory requirements, lender requirements and documents relating to the broker's own commercial arrangements.
I have no objection to a broker earning a reasonable fee for arranging finance. However, when a client is paying substantial fees, I expect professionalism, clear communication and an approach that respects the client.
Completing a mortgage is obviously important, but the quality of service throughout the process matters equally.
Unfortunately, my experience left me with little confidence in Brightstar's approach to customer relationships, and I would not choose to use the company again.
**UPDATE** I must respectfully challenge Steve Burch's response, as it does not accurately reflect the circumstances.
Firstly, the Terms of Business were not returned entirely unsigned. I signed the acknowledgement on page 9 back in July 2026. The outstanding signature was on page 5, relating to Brightstar's engagement and remuneration arrangements.
If this additional signature was so critical to regulatory compliance, why was it not addressed until October, some three months later and shortly before completion?
My criticism was never about signing the document or paying the agreed fees. It concerned the manner in which the request was handled, particularly the suggestion that mortgage completion could be delayed.
I fully acknowledge that Brightstar secured the mortgage, but a successful transaction does not excuse poor communication or unnecessary pressure.
My review reflects my genuine experience as a customer. I stand by it, and I have now raised a formal complaint regarding the handling of this matter.

Dear Mr Bellamy,
I have taken the time to review your application before responding. A 1 star review is considered to be a serious complaint, and yet, as you have stated, we successfully completed a highly complex transaction on your behalf.
As you have also stated, transparency is of the utmost importance, and I can evidence that the document in question was our Terms of Business which was issued to you in July which fully set out our Fees at the outset of our dealings with you, giving you ample time to make an informed decision on whether to do business with us.
It was this document that was returned to us incomplete and unsigned. It appears that we politely requested this from you on several occasions which were not responded to, and as this Agreement was your acceptance of our engagement costs, it is a point in regulation that we do require this for our files as evidence you have accepted our Terms.
As we approached completion, the fact this document remained outstanding despite several requests meant it then became more urgent for this to be in place as we did not want to delay matters for you.
Whilst I would not go into detail surrounding the complexity of the situation in arranging this for you in a public forum, you would be aware that this was not a straightforward transaction, but we worked diligently to achieve the desired results by overcoming several hurdles.
The fact we had to repeat several requests for a document to be signed so that we could complete the application in a timely manner would not usually be considered grounds for a complaint. had this been returned upon our initial request, there would have not been a requirement to continually ask for this.
As a result of the request made to us provide you with full information to support the work we undertook on your behalf, I hope you will understand fully the background work undertaken to achieve a positive outcome for you.

A Highly Professional Service
