They spend about twice as much as they should to raise money ($14 to raise $100). They are not even rated by Charity Navigator, which is the best organization around to get detailed information about charities. I will not support them.

After I call to cancel my suscripción they didn’t cancel. And try every month to continue stealing my money. They want you money no matter what. Don’t suscribe that’s “non charity” is a headache. Base on my experience an scam!

I decided to donate after meeting reps outside of my Trader Joe's. I agreed to a $30 a month donation. It was confirmed by the in person rep as well as the rep on the phone. I got home and there was a $360 charge on my card. I called the 800 number and a woman started yelling at me saying its impossible for me to get charged the same day. she wouldn't listen to me so i hung up on her and i will be contacting my credit card company.

CARE.org only cares about getting money out of you monthly on your credit card. CARE.org will not respond to my numerous attempts to contact them by email or their website contact form to try to cancel their recurring monthly charge/donation on my credit card. Care.org is the most non-responsive to donors charity I have ever encountered. CARE.org tries to hide any email contact information so that it is difficult to impossible to get an email response from them. So far no one at CARE.org will respond to my numerous emails and help me. I will likely have to cancel my credit card completely to get rid of their monthly recurring charge. Do not become a donation stream for them. You will not be able to get help from them to stop it. You have been warned.

Toxic Management in IT – A Deeply Damaging Experience

I joined CARE International as a 2nd Line Engineer, covering a maternity leave position. I came into the role with hope, especially as I was going through a lot in my personal life at the time — but unfortunately, the experience turned out to be extremely disappointing and emotionally damaging.

While the organisation itself does great work globally, the internal culture within the IT department is broken, primarily due to a deeply problematic management style. The manager (initials VL) was rarely present on-site, but when they were involved — particularly in meetings or 1-to-1s — they stirred tension rather than building a supportive or effective team. There was a noticeable pattern of bullying, passive-aggressive behaviour, and manipulation.

The entire team worked in fear, not cohesion — constantly walking on eggshells just to keep the manager happy. Rather than leading or mentoring, this individual created division, pitted staff against each other, and consistently undermined people’s confidence. I personally felt mocked, unsupported, and judged, with my professionalism and skills continuously questioned for no clear reason.

Worse still, I wasn’t the only one affected. Another team member went on sick leave due to stress and poor treatment — a clear indication of a pattern of toxicity within the department.

Throughout my time there, I carried the emotional burden home with me — during breaks, evenings, weekends, and it spilled into my personal life. After leaving, I was left with emotional trauma and financial strain, with no apology, no support, and no compensation from CARE International.

To be clear, this is a management issue, not a reflection of the wider organisation’s mission or people outside this department. But I strongly urge the CEO and directors to investigate this department and take complaints seriously. Until they do, I would not recommend any future engineers or IT professionals join this team.

Good luck to the company — but meaningful change is urgently needed.

Whilst this company can connect you to care professionals, it comes at a price and is very misleading. You can post a message asking for help, but you can't read messages or reply to anyone without paying a minimum fee of £25! This is not made clear when you post the message, and you feel bad for all the carers who respond, as you can't even explain why you are not responding.
It's a grift that is exploiting carers. Horrible!
