Lack of transparency in subscription reminders
**Updated** - after complaining, they have given me a full refund. I have updated my stars accordingly. signed up for Checkmyfile’s seven-day free trial, which then converted to a £14.99 monthly subscription. Although the price was shown when I registered, I received no reminder email before the trial ended and the payment was taken. I find this particularly disappointing from an FCA-regulated company, from which I would expect high standards of transparency and fair customer treatment.
I contacted customer service promptly and requested a full refund. They said that no refund was due because the service had been provided as described, but offered a £5 partial refund as a gesture of goodwill. This still leaves me paying £9.99 for a subscription I did not actively intend to continue.
For a financial information service, I expected clearer communication before such a short trial automatically became a paid subscription. A simple trial-ending reminder would have prevented the issue altogether.
I have asked them to reconsider the remaining £9.99 and will update this review fairly if the matter is resolved.

Thank you for leaving this feedback. We're really sorry to hear that you weren't expecting your subscription payment to be debited.
We always want to make sure our customers are informed and in control of their subscription. In addition to confirming the price of our subscription at sign-up, we also confirm the length of the free trial and include the date it will end in our Welcome email.
We also inform customers that they can cancel at any time during their free trial. Doing so does not prevent them from using their remaining trial days.
These measures are taken to ensure that all customers signing up are aware of the subscription and when it's due to start, and that anyone only wanting to use our free trial knows to cancel their subscription in good time.
That being said, we know that sometimes renewal dates can be missed, and the feedback about sending reminders is really helpful and something we can take on board. We want to do our best to keep our service accessible and easy to manage, including making it easy to track our subscription.

A great tool generally, has really helped me rebuild my file and offer full transparency for brokers and lenders.
When ive asked for information and have raised disputes, the team have been straight on it and kept me updated throughout. Efficient and communicative.....highly recommend. 👍

The guys are Checkmyfile are fantastic! I was reviewing my credit report and noticed a missed payment had been recorded by my old broadband provider last October. I closed my account with them in October and when I logged onto my old online account it showed my balance was nil. I was able to download my last statement they issued to me which showed a nil balance and the date I'd made the final payment. I also took screenshots of my bank statement that confirmed the final payment had been made well before the statement was generated/issued to me.
I raised a dispute with Checkmyfile and received several emails seeking clarification on the issue. I was able to email them the evidence i'd collected and they assured me they would do te head lifting. I was updated every time they took action and within 3 or 4 days i had seperate emails advising the broadband provider had confirmed the payment had been made and that my report would be corrected. I then received emails confirming that each of the 3 credit reference agencies will update my report within 28 days.
If I had tried to do this on my own it would have been very difficult. With Checkmyfile I only had to explain it once and they took over and sorted everything.
I'd highly recommend them for resolving issues on your credit report. And even for checking your report as the info they hold and the way they present it is so clear/easy to understand and also makes it easy to identify any issues.
