I would have to agree with the negative views on here. I tried contacting on behalf of my granddaughter, who has problems. Phone number doesn't work and neither does online chat. You have to register... Voir plus

Waited 2 hours and no response
I tried to chat with them on their online chat thingy. I waited from 2 in the morning to 4 in the morning then was booted of the site. This two hour what time is ridiculous and I didnt even get the help I needed. Avoid at all costs.
I have had a very positive experience…
I have had a very positive experience with Childline. I’ve had a lot of family issues and struggled with my mental health a lot and have found the support from Childline helpful and have truly changed my life. They’ve saved my life in a few cases. I will say, they aren’t 100% perfect but they’re a free volunteer based company so yes there are gonna be waiting times, some volunteers aren’t going to be as ‘good’ but they really do try. I’ll forever talk about the way that have changed my life and will forever be great full for the service they have provided for me.
Thank you
Crap
Crap. Just crap. I was in tears for reasons and they were just repeating what I said I told them I was devastated and the lady says “I guess you’re feeling really devastated” like yeah no shiht . They said “I understand” about a million times within the span of 5 minutes . It was bloody tedious
DO NOT EVEN VISIT
I went there for a live chat with someone for a question regarding puberty, I told them what I was feeling and then they replied 5 minutes later with "so this is what you are feeling today, have you talked to your friends about this?" and I said no, I came here for help and they ask me to go somewhere else, they then said "We are a listening service, are you looking for advice on this topic?" I said yes again, they replied once again 5 minutes later saying "we have a good acticle on this" they then send the link, and nowhere relates to my feelings or problem, they refuse to give personal opinouns and then asked if there was anyone else I can speak to. No use whatsoever, don't even waste your time, I hope they get sued because they might have hurt more people than saved.
If your job is to protect children
If your job is to protect children, then do that instead of doing the opposite.
Waste of time
Waste of time, all I was given was repetition of what I said and no advice at all when I had asked countless times for it.
Horryble place to be trained as counsellor
Horrible how the company mislead volunteers and forced them into a fast-paced, unprofessional, and chaotic training that basically consist in quickly repeating what people might say on the phone to show some kind of empathy. Many people do not pass the course. Those ones are patronized and belittled by big-head managers who think they are very special just by working at Childline. There is not a genuine interest in taking care of human begins.
Childline is not good
Everytime I've used childline it is the same thing all the time. I ask for advice and for help and they say nothing helpful and keep interrupting you. I try explain my anxiety and paranoia and ask what to do and they that it is normal to feel bad, and you issues from the past can have an affect on you. They don't actually give you help they just explain why they think you may feel that way. Only use childline for abuse and taking things of your chest, don't ask for help with your mental health they don't help - find a therapist.
Sort of Good.
I started by asking for symptoms of ADHD and what else I could have, my first counselor was nice, helpful and understanding of what I meant, but then, I was transferred to someone else, and this person took a while to answer back. But they were still kind, although they seemed unprofessional. They also changed the topic quickly, to what to do to get a diagnosis and what to do while waiting to go to the doctor's, when I was just trying to find out if I have symptoms.
Didn’t answer so he killed himself…
Didn’t answer so he killed himself ridiculous
I reported abuse in schools and they…
I reported abuse in schools and they took no notice. I am a parent to a child who they turned their back on.
Like speaking to a robot
bad to say the least.
I went there to talk about my cigarette addiction in the chat but all they said was stuff like 'well what do like to do in your free time.' I asked what I could use for coping instead of cigarettes but they just repeat the same question. Not helpful at all
Unhelpful
I could tell this one counsellor was getting irritated with me with the tone of her voice and she was just rude to me
I told her about a event that happened in school and she was so bitchy about it
I have special needs and I’ve used…
I have special needs and I’ve used childline a lot to be honest, it’s never really helped but there was one situation that really got under my skin. I can’t remember exactly when it happened (although it was in the pandemic since they were obviously low on staff) I dialled the number and a got contacted with this man who obviously had no experience with special needs children and really didn’t want to be there. I got really angry and felt incredibly patronised. But the thing that upset me the most is I redialled the number hoping to find somebody more helpful instead I got the same man and in a very irritated voice he said “Yes it’s me *name*” he was the worst councillor I’ve ever spoken to on childline. Clearly they don’t give a damn about kids
Never go to these people for help.
These people have absolutely no care in the world for children.
I called because I was being seriously physically abused at my house by multiple family members and they told me just to go to bed. Once I told them there was a 10 year old here to test them to see if they would care they continued the conversation by only caring about the 10 year old that I made up, asking if she was safe and away from any danger. Oh, but not a single care in the world for me with all the thoughts in the world to kill myself that night.
Worst people in the entire world.
Only damage done, no help at all despite being in a dangerously abusive household.
I contacted childline through the website and talked to them through a chat thing, I asked for help out of an abusive household with my mother. I was about 14 at the time and if they actually helped me it would've saved me from two more years of manipulation, gaslighting, mental/physical abuse, depression self harm and suicidal thoughts.
Instead of helping me they took three days until they decided to do something about it (since it was over the weekend) which is so stupid considering I was in a dangerous situation. When they did do something about it, they instead called my mum and said that her daughter reported her for abuse which obviously made my situation worse. So yeah, if you need help speak to anyone but childline.
if I could give zero stars i would
if I could give zero stars i would. i explained my toddler son was having a play date at my house, in his bedroom..was told/ shown/ encouraged/ to give O sax to a boy who lived on our street. I knew the family- the children would take our toys , there were rumours about the 5 children exposed to the mum. and dad doing‘bedroom things’. anyway- i called child line. i was innocent and naive, no internet. I was told we can’t help. this line is for children to call. thank you and good bye. luckily my son doesn’t remember this. he’s now 34 but has mental health problems
it's very bad
ITS SO BAD ALL THEY DO IS NOD THEIR HEAD IN AGREEMENT AND GIVE NO ADVICE OR NO SHI.TS. ALL THEY TELL YOU TO DO IN THE END IS SLEEP. THEY CONSTANTLY CHANGING SUBJECTS. AND THEY JUST TOLD ME, A SUICIDAL PERSON, TO SLEEP . HAHAHA REALLLL FUNNY
Made me feel like a nuisance
A few years ago I called as I was very distressed (crying etc) and needed to speak to someone. I explained the situation I was in and the man I was speaking to explained that he had someone else on the line or something along those lines and that really took me by surprise. As I was younger I just said “oh I’ll go, no it’s fine” and he asked me if I was sure and I replied with “yes” because I felt like a nuisance and someone else probably needed more help than me. I wish I stood up for myself. He let me end the call. Who knows what could’ve happened after that phone call ended?? I was only 13 at the time and have never called a helpline since.
honestly they’re not that bad
honestly they’re not that bad, it’s definitely a good place to talk to someone about what’s bothering you but they don’t really help that much. i struggle with anxiety and intrusive thoughts so i started a one to one chat thing to ask for advice on breaking thought loops and letting thoughts pass but they just seem to repeat everything back to you and not offer actual advice! they help to get things off your chest though.
