Food Basics home delivery is up…
Food Basics home delivery is up charging consumers on substituted items. Is is being done via InstaCart who is handling home deliveries. Many items are listed in stock when ordering but are generally substituted with higher price items. I will give some quick examples. Primo pasta on sale for $1.68 most items were substituted with another brand at $2.49. Selection brand 340g shredded cheese at $4.88 substituted with Selection 620g for $10.49 Food Basics website states substitutions will be at same price or lower. Also of note some sale items were sold out within first day of sale and appear not to be restocked by end of sale. I ordered twice to verify that is what is going on. Can anyone say Class Action Lawsuit. lol.
They do not respond you.
1. I inquiried about an apple with roots inside with picture via web CS page. I never had their response.
I had some issue regarding the price on the receipt.
2. I called customer service, when the lady told me that the store manager would call me soon.
The store never called.
They're incredibly cunning
They're incredibly cunning, arbitrarily raising prices. If they see you as a long-time customer, the price might suddenly increase by 25% or more. For example, one pizza snack dramatically increased in price from 2.87 to 3.99, which increased 40%.
Do not use their click and collect
Do not use their click and collect.
I gave them three shots. The first one it took 10 minutes to get someone to answer the phone once I had arrived, the second one I waited 45 minutes in my car for the order to be brought to me and this third time I called every 10 minutes or 30 minutes and each time was told that they hadn't picked my order yet. So at 4:45 I told them to cancel my order. That should have been waiting for me at 4:00 p.m.
Absolute garbage service. Don't even bother.
I bought a Beatrice milk cartoon…
I bought a Beatrice milk cartoon from Ajax location expiray date says Jan 29th and it's alredy gone lumpy and bad.ive had this expirence before but this time I just wanted to look in to it as this can't be this way when we spent higher grocery bills with this economy.
Thx
All the time I do my shopping from food…
All the time I do my shopping from food basic located at Gerrard Square mall all staff are nice but I encountered Vivian who was so rude she told me my total which I couldn’t hear properly but when I asked again how much she said I was talking why ya didn’t hear ?, I told her I couldn’t can ya please repeat but she didn’t I quickly packed my groceries and asked bout receipts she told me she already gave me but she didn’t I came home and checked it wasn’t in my bag . I was so disappointed cuz of that rude behavior next time I would try to go to other stores. She shouldn’t treat customer that way but she did it and was not apologized at all .
One out of three deliveries received. Not bad?
Three times I have tried to order a full cart of groceries online. Only once have I actually received my order. The website sometimes glitches when ordering specials. Customer service says "sorry, that happens."
My most recent order was shopped twice by two instacart shoppers and cancelled at the checkout stage. The second sent me a photo of the self-checkout with an ecommerce error and apologized, saying this happens a lot and something needs to be reset with the order. I contacted Foodbasics customer service. They said they'd have to contact instacart. My order was then cancelled with no notification. I did not want the order cancelled; I wanted my groceries delivered.
Foodbasics has been offering online delivery for a while now. How does it not work as intended?

WNOT HAPPY WITH CHECKOUThat you need is an express cash…
What you need is an express cash out.Did some shopping there yesterday and was very disappointed as well as others wanting to purchase a few items thinking it express.A couple ahead of me had a grocery cart filled to the top of cart.I asked if they would let me ahead of them considering I only had a few items to purchase. With a rude NO .There was no sign to indicate express. I called to speak to manager when I got home and was told NO EXPRESS LINE.VERY DISAPPOINTED AS WELL AS A FEW OTHER SENIORS WERE.THIS LOCATION IS UPPER WENTWORTH AND RYMAL .SO BE READY TO WAIT. NOT HAPPY. SHOULD CHANGE THE RULE AND MAKE AN EXPRESS LANE.
great pharmacist
I want to commend Sunita Ranni our Pharmacist. She went above and beyond to help my sick sick husband, She is a real angel and asset to the store. Such a kind and helpful lady. Thank you soo much Mary Johnston
Food basic app
I have used the online food basic app. I find it easy to navigate and conveinant having your groceries delivered to your doorstep. However, the people that are doing the shopping for you. Simply don't care! As it seems they are rushing and not paying attention to the condition of the goods. Most of the groceries I have received, I had to go back to the grocery store and return them. Due to spoiled or unhealthy looking products. Which defeats the purpose of this service. It's unfortunate for someone who may be elderly and needs this type of service. Bottom line. I am paying for my groceries, it's not free or charity. Do better!

The Food Basics on 1277 York Mills Rd…
The Food Basics on 1277 York Mills Rd is not the cleanest, nor the most well-kept place, with a stale smell throughout. 10 minutes in there is as much as I can suffer to pick up on weekly specials and non-perishable needs. Go elsewhere for produce, bakery and meats. Because according to the numerous reviews, it's known to stock rotten meat, wilted, moldy produce and bread. When I was in there, all the "fresh" ginger looked shrivelled and dried. But the staff mostly have been very helpful and polite, some even going out of their way to accommodate you, even on a busy day when they have their hands full— except for one who sternly demanded “don’t be switching out" the cracked eggs in the carton for fresh ones LOL As if I were replacing less expensive ones for a higher-priced one. The lack of self-awareness of this staff saying this while rotten meat, wilted and moldy produce and bread have been known to plague the isles, is absolute hilarity and irony …Perhaps if their quality-control was more up to health code standards— or just First World standards, customers wouldn’t have to perform this remedial task of inspecting an egg carton for cracked eggs themselves. I get that Food Basics isn’t Erewhon, but rotten. moldy, damaged food-- and this includes cracked eggs, really shouldn’t be even acceptable for swine, let alone paying customers. Nor should a customer be scolded at for doing their own QC inspection.
Diaper changing on the floor of the supermarket
Aside from trying to duck scooters in the store while shopping, today I saw something I never would have imagined in a supermarket. There were three women sitting down on the floor of the supermarket changing the diaper of one of their kids. I was so shocked !!! This I’m a store where there’s produce everywhere.
Great place to shop
Great place to shop! I like shopping at food basics as prices are reasonable. We need a food basic in Bowmanville as we only have freshco. Please consider opening a branch here
stinking meat
bought some ground beef a few days ago, made meatballs, they stunk so much that I had to trow it out,
Lost money and work,
will never buy any kind of meat from Food basic.
Food basics going downhill
Last year I changed from fresco to food basics expecting better products. At first I was pleased with most of the products until about 6 months ago when I noticed the service was getting pretty bad. I've tried 3 different stores but it seems the employees aren't very nice to customers including management. Since then the produce especially the banana's aren't very good quality. I did mention it to produce workers only to receive attitude ! When I've gone to other brand stores including Walmart the quality is much better at the same price or cheaper than food basics.
Today I went back to freshco and found it better so unless food basics smartens up I won't be back as I'm sure others would do the same.
Was in the Food Basics at 2131 Lawrence…
Was in the Food Basics at 2131 Lawrence Ave East, Scarborough today. Had no clear cranberry juice. They say they haven't gotten it for few weeks. I even called another Food Basics. Don't have. I feel this is poor service. As some people such as myself cannot drink the red juice. Has way much more acid than the clear cranberry juice. I get heart burn very badly if drinking the red cranberry juice. Doesn't matter if it isn't an Ocean Spray juice. I just need the clear cranberry juice. Would like others to see my report. As there may be other items Food Basics doesn't sell. And can be purchased at other grocery stores. Hope my review will help others to shop at other grocery stores also.
Food Basics supports fascism...
3 weeks ago I showed the manager at the Hawksbury ontario branch photos of products which were incorrectly given the "maple leaf" symbol (which by Food Basics own site means at least 85% Canadian content) that were absolutely American products. I went in today and the same products are still miss labeled and so many more. No more Food Basics for my family.
No refund if Online service…
No refund if Online service overcharges.
Placed a 3rd order online, 1st 2 were fine, but the 3rd my total was 100 and they charged me $174.
I call for a refund and it is processing.
Week after week I call and it is always 4-5 days.
No one to contact but 888 people.
No manger, coordinator, etc to discus why a computer error takes a month to NOT get resolved
Do Not Trust Food Basics zEvert time I…
Do Not Trust Food Basics zEvert time I have gone to pick groceries (like chicken quarters today Sept 9 2025 @ 1.98/lb) they claim it is sold out. They just advertise deals without having the stock. This is done to make customers to visit the stores. Don’t ever fall for this trick.
