I like my futon. It is comfortable to sleep on and looks good. However, the instructions are confusing. It was not clear which side of the deck faces up. Why not put a clear sticker with an up arrow on it?

Good set of bookshelves, nice quality. Looks good. You may need to add bookends as the sides are not enclosed.

Instructions were unclear (the spacing between shelves is non-uniform, and the bottom shelf should have the largest height, which is not obvious from the diagram supplied - some written instructions would help) so I had to disassemble and reassemble them before getting it right. The fixings are good quality so it was easy.

Overall, the Grace Kitchen Larder is a nice-looking piece of furniture and works well aesthetically in a medium-sized kitchen. The design is modern without feeling too stark, and the warm pine front works particularly well alongside existing natural oak furniture. I also like that the lighter pine helps keep the kitchen feeling bright rather than making it feel darker, while the contrast between the solid pine and dark grey sides is attractive.

A pleasant surprise was the soft-close door hinges, which I don’t recall seeing mentioned on the website. The doors themselves close very nicely and give the unit a more premium feel.

Unfortunately, the build experience and some of the materials let it down quite a bit. I’m an experienced DIYer and it still took around four solid hours to assemble, which is a considerable amount of time for this type of unit. The MDF also feels on the cheaper side, and the dark grey melamine finish seems quite easy to chip. Mine arrived with around three or four small chips of roughly 2–3 mm, mainly on the side panels. Because the material underneath is white, these chips stand out noticeably against the dark grey finish and you won't stop noticing them once you've seen them!

Door alignment is another area where expectations need to be managed. It is possible to get the doors looking reasonably good, but achieving perfectly even, consistent gaps is difficult. If, like me, you like getting a crisp, near-perfect finish, you will probably end up settling for the alignment of lower standard rather than true consistency.

The biggest disappointment was the drawer mechanism. The runners are described as smooth-close, but in practice they are not self-closing or soft-close in the way I would normally understand the term. You have to manually guide the drawers fully closed rather than giving them a push and allowing the mechanism to take over.

The top drawer was particularly problematic. The runners were extremely tight and difficult to fit, possibly because of slight misalignment in the pre-drilled holes. The drawer can now be opened and closed, but it remains noticeably stiff and requires more force than it should.

So overall, it is a good-looking larder once assembled, and there are aspects of the design I genuinely like, particularly the colour combination, proportions and soft-close doors. However, the quality of the MDF and melamine, the time required for assembly, the difficulty achieving precise alignment, and especially the drawer runners mean I probably would not buy this particular type of Futon Company furniture again. That said, I have seen and owned other Futon Company products that I consider better-built, so I would not judge the whole range on this one item.

After delivery, overall very good items, 1 had a slight query. They contacted and dealing well almost immediately.
