It was so simple

My currency was delivered the day after I ordered it, saving men having to go to a bureau de change. I wanted to order through a trustworthy name and it was delivered reliably. I will be ordering currency through John Lewis again.

John Lewis is a trusted reputable business. It only made sense I took out a partnership card and did so when moving to help with big purchases. Can’t fault them. Staff and service are second to none.

Brilliant in store service, shame it’s ending. Collection from my local Waitrose (Maidenhead) often fails as there’s no one in store to open the safe. This must improve if JL are thinking of using this for all cash sales.

Always buy my Currency from John Lewis website Rates are always higher than in store. You can either have it delivered to your home address or collect it at a store of your convenience even at a Waitrose Store. Love this online service ordering is simple. The staff are always friendly too.

The face to face service in the store contributes to the excitement of getting holiday money which going online transactions deny. Elderly customers do not want online.

Extremely disappointing experience – poor customer service and an unfair cancellation fee

My experience with John Lewis Travel Money was extremely disappointing.

I ordered US$1,000 on 9 September. I acknowledge that I made a mistake by not noticing that the currency would only be available for collection on 11 September. When I went to collect it on 10 September, I was informed that the order was not yet ready. As I was already on my way to the airport, I had to purchase the dollars elsewhere.

I emailed customer services at 4:50 pm on 10 September to request an urgent cancellation and refund. The order was scheduled to be available for collection at 2:00 pm the following day, meaning that I requested cancellation approximately 21 hours in advance.

On Saturday, 12 September, I received a response informing me that a £20 cancellation fee would apply. I replied asking whether the fee could kindly be waived as a gesture of goodwill, given the circumstances.

Following that exchange, I received three further emails reminding me to collect my order, including messages described as “final reminders”. This was particularly frustrating because I had already explained that I no longer required the currency and had requested cancellation.

I eventually received my refund, but John Lewis deducted a £20 cancellation fee. Although I ultimately accepted the deduction to avoid further delays in recovering my money, I was disappointed that my request to waive the fee as a gesture of goodwill was not accommodated.

I understand that I should have checked the collection date more carefully. However, I expected a more responsive and customer-focused approach once I had contacted the company to cancel the order.

The combination of poor communication, repeated collection reminders, and the refusal to waive the cancellation fee left me deeply dissatisfied with the service.

I would not use John Lewis Travel Money again.
