Terrible experience
Terrible experience, very slow, rude staff, delays, very expensive as well, shame for high German quality of service...
I have business class to Dubai
I have business class to Dubai. In fast track line for security control we pass more than 2 hours with kids. Thank employees was rude and continuing offending business class passengers. So result Instead to use lounge and services we paid for business class flight quite lost a plane. Probably you should refund the difference for the worst service possible!
Avoid Munich airport
Very non-intuitive setup of schengen vs non-schengen departures and extremely unclear signs. Two hour wait for luggage, with no information.
It a very disappointing service as you…
Fly without cry, Its a very disappointing service as you loose your money and your blocked item. 28/12/23 a personal item was blocked during airport control and security suggested the specific service I did the requested procedure and payment but the item never received so far. Parallel they cheating me answering on my messages without giving any clear answer about when I finally receive the item.
Very poor - avoid if you can
I can only echo previous comments - arrived Zone C, trudged through to BA check in in Zone A, back to Zone C for security, back to Zone A for passport control which had only two agents checking passports and so a massive queue. An hour and a half later then its another walk back to Zone C for BA departure gate. Food options limited and expensive - get a sandwich from bakery at Munich Ost or Rosenheim Bhf if you're coming in that way.
The worst airport I have ever been to
Munich airport has never been a pleasant experience - I used to fly in and out every week, many years ago. Like most regional German airports, it always struck me as a vanity project, a sprawling complex that is mostly largely deserted, far more expansive than it needs to be for the passenger numbers it handles, with very poor shopping and eating facilities. Let me tell you, it has gotten worse.
Flying BA back to London, what used to happen is you would go through security next to the Zone A check-in desk on the ground floor. Once airside, non-Schengen passengers would then go through passport control to get to their gate, in a walled off section of the terminal.
Today, the taxi still drops you at Zone A, but the security control point is closed off and deserted, apparently no longer in use. Instead, you must walk some distance, involving going outside the building, to get to Zone C, where the ground floor security control point is also closed down, as is that in Zone B. There are no staff to explain this, and signage is poor to non-existent. All passengers are funnelled upstairs into what originally must have been a secondary overspill security point, which will probably only have two working X-ray machines and one sub-millimetre scanner. The staff are very slow. The process is very slow. There is no sense of urgency. Don’t be in a hurry.
Once through security, non-EU / other favoured nation passport holders must trek down a very long corridor all the way back to Zone A to get to passport control. Then once finally in the departure area they must walk all the way back to Zone C through a completely deserted airport to reach the BA departure gate.
At this point, assuming fog hasn’t delayed your flight because the Bavarian authorities cleverly built Munich airport in a depression that is prone to severe fog in the winter, BA will announce that, even though they have encouraged you to travel only with cabin bags by making you pay extra to check bags in, the plane they have laid on is a sardine can (ie an Airbus A320), and is full, so all those cabin bags have to in fact be checked in at the gate, adding half an hour waiting time at the other end.
Make sure you eat before you go to the airport because once airside the food options are effectively crisps and chocolate, and your in-flight “meal” will - if you are lucky - consist of a small chocolate biscuit and an undersized bottle of water.
Avoid flying out of Munich airport like the plague, is my advice. And don’t even get me started on the brusque immigration officials who greet you on first arriving.
This last trip has convinced me Germany is simply trying to make life as inconvenient as possible for British visitors, presumably as some kind of ongoing punishment for Brexit. I won’t be going back if I can help it, ever.
Do not fly from here using BA - it’s appalling
Do not fly from here using BA. Check in is in Zone A, security Zone C, Passports Zone A, Gate Zone C. In total 2km walking - plus as the passport machines cannot work any more with UK passports, you have to have your passport checked manually - and surprise surprise there’s typically a queue of 30-40 people as minimal staffing is provided.
Terminal 2 Friday 12th January
Terminal 2 Friday 12th January, Rubbish bins full to overflowing, Smoking Area full to capacity mostly with Airport staff and doors open allowing smoke and smell out, disgusting, Men's toilets down 4 four floors, not easy when travelling alone with 2 bags, no lift available, toilets filthy with trash, not exactly what you would expect from German Efficiency
Horrendous experience at Munich Airport…
Horrendous experience at Munich Airport twice now. Connecting flights have absolutely no cafés or shops avaliable to purchse even water after 5.30pm.
We were travelling through Munich into London Heathrow with a 1 year old and after a 6.5hour flight, we arrived at Munich at 5.50pm, where we discovered all shops, duty free, cafés were completely closed. To make it worse, different members of staff were giving us contradicting information about how to get to level 4 causing to walk from one end of the aiport to the other. At level 4, there were some shops open, we discovered that just to get a bite to eat, not only would we need to present our boarding pass and passport again and go through passport control, we would need to go through passport control yet again (this would be the 3rd time since arriving at this airpory) to get back into our allocated gate. The shops on our level were fully closed, no staff present anywhere.
Considering it wasn't late and an airport, this need to drastically improve, especially for the vulnerable passengers. It took us a total of 1 hour and 50 mins to get from the airplane and to a shop, with constant walking, my 1 year old was hungry and exhausted. An extremely disappointing experience.
Avoid at all cost …
The most disorganised and badly run airport Ive ever been to , shocking queues rude staff bad facilities, they seem very arrogant about Brexit and as for the car hire, we have family is Austria and visit there at Christmas, it’s always been bad but this year was so bad we’re never flying there again, what a pleasure getting back to Heathrow. So much for German efficiency they should be ashamed.
Security staff are completely incompetent
Security staff are completely incompetent. They are slow and their random swipe tests take forever. Everyone from our flight was standing at least 50-60 minutes to get through. They were also rude and seemed like they were on a power trip. All the passengers were pissed off and we all had to run to our gates even with a two hour layover. They should fire the entire security staff. Shame on you. We were a family of three traveling with kids. Such rude behavior. No fast track during transit. Will avoid Munich airport in the future.
Passport control is the worst
Passport control is the worst! What happened to this airport? Incredible long waiting line and police officers are unfriendly. It used to be great a couple of years ago. I wonder who is in charge?
We walked 1km between check-in and…
We walked 1km between check-in and finally arriving at the departure gate, with long queues at check-in, security and passport control. Arrived at the airport 2 hours prior to departure and arrived in a state of panic at the gate as the flight was closing. Entirely unacceptable lack of organisation, layout planning and staffing.
We were treated badly by a café…
We were treated badly by a café employee (schmankerl) on saturday morning 16 december 2023, because she demanded that we spoke german as "this is a german airport". We and other friends have experienced similar attitude in the past. This is unacceptable for an international airport and really bad for turist industry
Probably one of the worst airports we…
Probably one of the worst airports we have flown into and out of, having queued for 2 hours to get through passport control, thank goodness we allowed 3 hours passport officer threw my passport back at me....just rude, awful duty-free shop, food facilities non-existent.Wrong gate number was given on boarding pass, which created havoc. Avoid this airport if you can
APALLING SERVICE FOR DISABLED
Absolutely appalling service for disabled people, absolutely no one wanted to help me with special assistance! When I did ask one of the special assistance workers, he replied it is not like Heathrow we do not offer a personal service. I ended up walking around the airport looking for a wheelchair. Not impressed at all.
Internet and phone
After ordering the service through email, phoning twice from abroad and getting assurance that it will be NO problem, we got stuck at the airport with ten suitcases. The woman at arrival help desk was VERY helpful, but at the porter service obody was answering the phone. If this service can't stand up to his offers, they should close it down. Then at least, people know, that they are on their own and it saves the aggravation!!!!
The absolute worst airport experience.
The absolute worst airport experience. Arrived 2.5 hours before short haul flight and met with a long queue already waiting to check in and 2 check in agents only. After over an hour there, caused mainly by completely incompetent and confused check in staff who could barely tag a bag without having to ask someone else what to do, we then had to go outside and join a security queue in another building. This queue was batshit crazy...only 4 x Ray machines open and staff clearly working at the slowest pace possible. By this time we were concerned about making our flight. Imagine the pain when we saw the queue for outbound passport control which was the next long line we had to join. Thankfully the booths were fully staffed and this queue moved quickly but then the dirty ladies toilets and the worst chicken wrap topped our experience off, catching the flight with about 10 minutes to spare. It was a nightmare from start to finish, the airport is old, the infrastructure is old, no modern bag drops ( despite us checking in on line) and the wayfinding is diabolical. Compare it to 1980s charter flight check in and you're getting close. 0/10, avoid, do not recommend and don't transit there if you can help it.
The management at Munich airport should…
The management at Munich airport should be bowing their heads in shame. Our group of four people queued for two hours to clear security and a further thirty minutes to pass through passport control. The was a total absence of staff to provide assistance. It is necessary to walk the entire length of the terminal (one) to reach security, walk the entire length in the opposite direction to reach passport control and then walk all the way back to the boarding gate. The toilets, which were filthy, are reached by descending four flights of stairs - not an easy task when carrying luggage. The public address system is inaudible in some parts of the terminal. Overall, a bad experience and far from a good representation of the normal German efficiency.
Munich airport - very poor experience
Munich airport has no idea how to process even the small number of people that use it. Very long and slow moving queues at check-in, security and passport control. No attempt to give a positive customer experience. I will avoid Munich airport in future and use Salzburg instead, which offers a far superior customer experience.
