I wish I had read these reviews before…
I wish I had read these reviews before I rejoined OneMedical! I loved them 5 years ago very convienent and very god staff. Boy have things changed. I needed a refill of maintenance medication I have taken for like 10 years and when Amazon called them for a refill they only gave a 30 day supply and said I needed to make an appointment. I do not need an appointment I just need my medication. I am not going to renew with One Medical and I am even considering looking for another provider before then. My first video visit with One Medical was over $700 and was with a nurse! They just want to add stuff so they can bill your insurance.
Don’t be fooled
Don’t be fooled! This is Amazon with all the corporate greed and lies. A fifteen-minute appt. I was told would only cost a small co-pay. Amazon/One Medical filed it so that Medicare would not pay and I had to shell out nearly 200 bucks to their direct profits. Amazon shareholder hunger should not bilk senior citizens who are forced into medical treatment. Find a genuine medical CARE alternative.
Refill scam…
So I used to get my cream… I had 2 refills. And when it was time to refill, my 2 refills were gone lol!? I just did a pay as you go, I thought I was crazy. Everything was gone from Amazon Pharmacy. But in general, you pay for a visit… they give you the thing, and 2 refills So I let it go, just paid for another Dr visit to get. And I got, with 2 refills. It was delivered, and then a few days later I get an email that there’s a world wide shortage of estradiol cream lol. So they cannot refill and I need to contact for a replacement. Two things… 1. You can’t just contact them after 2 days. You need to book another appointment. And TWO, there is not a worldwide, not even a U.S., shortage of the cream lol. It’s a scam… they get you to get one prescription, and you will never get your refills.
Amazon One (Out of Five Stars) Medical Was the Worst Online Customer Experience I Have Ever Had
Amazon One Medical yielded my first negative experience with any Amazon product in my life thus far. I strongly recommend that Amazon management spin this one off because it is a potential brand destroyer.
The company is one of several innovators that basically draws a significant stream of income through deceiving its customers with limited attention by appearing to offer huge discounts on a particular service, but actually selling a similar sounding but quite different service, c.f.
Homeaglow. In this case, One Medical looks sells a "membership" that gives you "access" to telemedicine but not "insurance" itself so be aware.
I signed up for it because it was advertised as a free two week membership offering access to telehealth services, which sounded close enough to insurance. I was hoping to get a cheap referral for a difficult to obtain through my primary health insurance provider. I was ultimately billed $412 for a 12 minute call with a nurse practitioner* who could make no prescriptions, but only make outpatient referrals - none of which were covered by primary health insurance provider. The customer service phone line was actually deactivated when I called it. Via calling Amazon's overarching health business helpline, I was able to get in touch a generally unsympathetic representative from Amazon One Medical. Essentially, you are upcharged if you report that you have insurance (??) and, if you call to complain, Amazon One Medical offers to charge you only the rate you would have if you were uninsured.
As a health-conscious customer, I would stay as far away from this product as possible if you are in need of discount medical services. If you must buy it, read all the fine print, and assume that you are dealing with an extremely cynical operator on the other side. I am not the type of person to negatively review products and try to be forgiving in general, but my overall customer experience here was so unpleasant that I felt compelled to leave this review in the public interest.
*The nurse practitioner I was referred to was perfectly fine given the constraints of the platform, which perhaps keeps this review at 1/5 rather than 0/5 or < 0/5.
I've read the negative reviews
I've read the negative reviews. I just have to say that's not been my experience at all at One Medical. Maybe I'm just lucky. The reason I signed up with them was because of the horrible medical care I was getting "in the wild" -- appointments scheduled months in the future, sitting in waiting rooms for hours despite an early morning appointment, being hustled through a three-minute visit without resolution of the issue, recourse or followup. It was why I stopped getting annual physicals for 20 years.
In fact, I saw it after I became a One Medical member but it was from referrals to outside specialists for a condition that my One Medical doctor caught and that a non-One Medical MD completely missed.
In July 2022, at my first visit with my current One Medical physician, my intent was to find out why I had discolorations around my ankles. She explained that it was probably lack of exercise and my COVID weight and how the legs are like a second heart to move fluids pooling in the legs. She was right about both but that's a digression. She ordered a full blood panel and called me two days later to tell me that my PSA was elevated and that she was referring me to a urologist because she said it was a 50/50 indication of prostate cancer.
That's when the clown show started again with the larger medical establishment, particularly at Mount Sinai: dropped appointments (but not being told it was dropped until I showed up for it), doctors losing test results, refusing to do telehealth visits only to deliver 30 seconds of news, being railroaded into scalpel surgery when I was a candidate for non-invasive stereotactic radiation surgery. I stayed in touch with my primary care MD at One Medical as she helped me to navigate my way through the substandard care I was getting elsewhere, including me firing my unhinged and ethically-challenged surgeon fifteen minutes before being wheeled into the OR. I finally landed at Weill Cornell/NY Presbyterian, which did a fabulous job. Five stars for them too.
But it was literally a year of hell with outside practitioners from the time she notified me about my PSA until it was finally resolved at NY Presby. I really couldn't have done it without her. She's remained bullish about me getting at least semi-annual wellness visits with blood tests.
Last year, I fell on some funky concrete stairs while carrying a heavy pressure washer, landing on my knee. It was incredibly painful and my leg was turning every color of the rainbow. I called One Medical. My doctor was on vacation so they sent me immediately to their Brooklyn Heights location to see a nurse practitioner who was concerned about "partition syndrome", referring me to NYU Langone's Level 1 trauma ER. I don't know how she did it but as soon as I signed in I was sent directly to an ER doctor despite a waiting room full of patients for a sonogram and X-ray. It turned out not to be anything serious but that One Medical NP took enough interest in the case to push it through the bureaucracy elsewhere.
I understand that One Medical isn't a hospital or even a clinic. They're concierge GPs who mostly just watchdog your health. If it's anything serious you get sent elsewhere. It was a One Medical doctor who saw signs of potential brain trauma in a good friend of mine and referred him out to NYU. It turned out to be a glioblastoma and he didn't make it. But he was pleased with One Medical because they saw him that very day about his blurry vision when his regular doctor gave him an appointment two weeks away.
I work in public health. I know the real standards of care in NYC. I've never had to wait more than two days to book an appointment at my Smith Street One Medical facility nor wait more than 20 minutes for that appointment. And I always get my same doctor unless it's for vaccination or blood draws, when it's appropriately an NP.
Insane prices— higher than booking with another doctor not on the platform
Easy to schedule but insanely priced. I did my physical and was having a persistent issue that my doctor asked my to schedule a virtual follow-up after a month if it didn’t go away. Didn’t go away, so I booked a 15min video call with her where she heard my symptoms (same as I said the first time) and she said there was nothing to do but wait it out. 2 months later I get a $700 bill in the mail for my virtual session. What?????????? Obviously not covered bc I haven’t hit my deductible but in what world would a 15min virtual follow-up that the doctor requested be $700? Ever since one medical got bought by Amazon, their pricing has sky rocketed. I recommend going the traditional route and find your own doctor.
Serious Concerns About Billing and Medical Record Accuracy
People read these like stories, so give them just a bit more:
I’ve been a member of One Medical for some time, and the difference in quality over the past year is hard to ignore.
What prompted this review was a billing issue that should have been straightforward. I was charged for injections that were never administered. I flagged it, expecting a simple correction. Instead, I was told their records are correct and that I’m responsible for the charges.
That response is what’s most concerning. If a provider can’t reconcile what actually happened during a visit with what’s documented, that’s not just frustrating, it raises real concerns about the reliability of their medical records.
This used to feel like a modern, patient-first experience. Now it feels operationally inconsistent and difficult to trust.
I’d encourage anyone considering joining to look closely at recent reviews and weigh whether this is the level of care and accuracy you’re comfortable with.
I just used the for a refill
I just used the for a refill. The doctor was late and only saw me for 5 minutes or less and I just got a 600 dollar bill! Insane for a refill visit! I’m appealing having to pay that whole bill. Won’t used them again!
I should've stuck with my gut and stayed away!
I was excited to join One Medical although I was a bit weary because it's by Amazon, and this is one time I should've trusted my gut, but I went forward with establishing care with them because I was able to go in person at first. The first visit went ok but I noticed as someone who suffers from chronic medical conditions that despite them advertising they also see people with chronic conditions, the nurse practitioner who saw me wasn't comfortable with nearly anything regarding my care, which is understandable since I thought I was going to see a doctor like most normal places which left me feeling mislead, so I was very disappointed at the same time, but she was really nice so I tried to give the visit the benefit of doubt. My next appointment was scheduled as a telephone visit although I preferred in person, but ok. I was then billed for what my insurance didn't pay although I wasn't supposed to be, and on top of that they billed my insurance just short of $500 for a video visit 15 minutes or less just for basically nothing. Back to the money they say I now owe, they didn't have my other insurance on file so one of the people on the phone told me to take a picture of my insurance information and email it to them, which I did. They never uploaded my information and the new person I spoke to didn't know what I was talking about. With so much fraud going on, I am very concerned where my information went. I am deciding not to return and have found a new primary care that's an actual doctor. I will also press the issue further about where my personal information went and if I have too, ill be filing a complaint.
So if you're looking for an actual primary care doctor, you will not see a doctor. The place is literally an urgent care basically ran by NP. Also don't go here if you have chronic conditions. Think you can call your healthcare provider in case of an emergency? you have to pay just to send a message if you don't upgrade. There's literally no way to really contact them which is alarming.
Amazon bills you 2x a regular local visit
I have kaiser but wanted to see what this was all about. I continued to see $49 for virtual visit. I did a trial period booked an appointment. I had a short 10 min video call, 48 hrs later I was billed 472.50. The provider that helped me was not really helpful and worked at san francisco general hospital which also had low reviews.
The primary care providers near Union…
The primary care providers near Union Station are toxic. They ordered numerous tests that I did not authorize, made up symtoms that I don't have, and are badgering me into more tests and unnecessary surgery that my insurance won't cover.
I wish I could give zero stars.
I wish I could give zero stars.
I was totally scammed by one medical.
I did not receive an appointment I showed up to the doctors office, they turned me away for care and referred me to somewhere else and still charged me almost $400 for the appointment. This is absolute scam and a horrible way to operate a business - I would not recommend them.
Go anywhere else possible do not go here and do not sign up for the membership. It is not worth it. They are sleazy.
The waiting time needs lots of improvement!!!!
The waiting time sucks!!! My appointment time was 1015am n its 1059now ! Whats the point of making appointment time when you cannot fulfill it! Please clean your group up with punctuality!!
From a painful patient!
$772 for a 15 min appointment
One Medical has gone completely downhill since Amazon bought them. It's VERY difficult to see an actual MD. NPs, PAs and other medical staff are easy to get a hold of but an actual doctor?...good luck!
I was charged $772 for a 15 minute appointment with an MD. In reality, the discussion was less than 10 minutes. That means, 1 MD working 40 hours/week for 50 weeks is bringing in over $6M in revenue to Amazon. $6M?!?! It's absolutely wild and unacceptable. DO NOT USE ONE MEDICAL!
My experience did not match the…
My experience did not match the advertised pricing.
A visit advertised as $49 resulted in a $624 charge for a short video appointment (around 10 minutes) for prescription renewal.
I had indicated that I did not want to use insurance. The visit was later billed at a higher complexity level than I expected for a telehealth visit.
I requested a review, but the billing was not adjusted.
Patients may want to clarify total costs and coding practices before scheduling.
$525 for No Care is a Scam
If I could give zero stars, I absolutely would. I signed up for One Medical because I deal with some ongoing issues that aren’t major but occasionally require a prescription. For the first time, I made a virtual appointment and spoke with a PA for less than 30 minutes. For whatever reason, there was no testing, no diagnosis, and absolutely nothing was resolved. I also wasn’t told how much it would cost upfront. A week later, I received a bill for $745, which was later adjusted to $525.11. I was shocked, so I called thinking it was a billing mistake. If you’re a broke student, don’t have insurance, or don’t have money to throw away, please stay away. That’s the best advice I can give. Even urgent care visits that include testing are usually under $300. If you don’t have insurance, don’t sign up.If you’re a student, don’t sign up.If you’re looking for care that actually helps you, please don’t sign up.
There's a reason their score is 1.3 on…
There's a reason their score is 1.3 on Trust Pilot across so many reviews: they are not asking for customer feedback and therefore don't know where they're falling. There is so much potential for this kind of service if they could just figure out how to execute on it. When I switched from my single practitioner, I was excited about the availability of medical staff when I needed it and was looking forward to a more modern online experience. It's been nothing but problems since I joined them. After I met with one provider in person and explained all my current medications, he still managed to prescribe the wrong medicine and/or dosage for three of them. Lucky I caught it, but this can be life threatening at worst. Their online service is also very bad. One reason that it's not getting any better is that for the six months I've been a member, I have not once received a survey about how my experience was with a consultation, a prescription refill or any other interaction. This company is owned by Amazon which is obsessed with focusing on the customer and is asking about feedback all the time so they can improve. Why they are not doing the same with One Medical is beyond me. If they did this for one month, they would very quickly identify the top five things they could do to improve customer satisfaction. The bar is set really low here.
constant problems since One Medical took over
There are constant problems since One Medical took over. When you call its a call center who are not qualified and don't understand what your talking about. The office is run terribly. The last two prescriptions were sent to Pharmacy incorrectly and he Pharmacist called me & said to call dr. haha you can't call. I waited forever on hold to talk to someone with no knowledge then transferred to a PA who kept telling me maybe he needs to see you. I have a appt every 3 months. And now the doctors are only allowed 30minutes with you which is not enough by any means. I am also waiting impatiently about results on tests that has to with cancer. Nobody called me so I wait nervous and the PA said you can talk to him at your next appt. Well IF I have breast cancer I don't want to wait. I like my doctor but really cannot deal with the incompetence of the rest of staff and managers. I would not recommend this to anyone. When it was IORA it was great.
Overpriced for a zoom meeting follow…
Overpriced for a zoom meeting follow up.
One medical isn't transparent about their inflated charges to the insurance.
They were great many years ago but no longer.
I also had post meno bleeding and was told the absurd scenario that I had toilet paper deep inside, well it wasn't it was a 9mm thick endometrium that required a biopsy for abnormal bleeding.
I had breast cancer young but that didn't raise concern and I had to get a second opinion to be send to a gynecologist. Unprofessional !
