I've ordered two bookcases from Jon over the years and I've been really pleased with both. As a small business working to bespoke designs, it did take a while for delivery of the second bookcase. After a bit of chasing and organising, we worked together to get a delivery date that suited. Jon arrived on time and had everything quickly installed. Happy to support a family-run business making well-made bookcases to a high quality and with character. Would recommend.

This business is a façade in every way. They say that Jon makes the furniture from scratch and that the company is owned by a family. This justification is frequently used to justify lengthy wait periods and delivery delays. I have been informed that he outsources the construction of his bookcases.
If you look at the Customs House filings, you will notice that they frequently go into mandatory strike off. A relative was ready to place an order, but I stopped them.

We could not be happier with our beautifully crafted bookcase. Jon’s skill and craftsmanship is so evident and the bookcase he created for us is truly special.

Communication from start to finish was efficient and informative, with our bookcase being delivered quicker than I had expected to be possible.

The overall experience exceeded our expectations in every way, we really feel like Jon has gone above and beyond to bring our bookcase vision to life.

I had been looking for a larger bookcase with a ladder to give my room a library feel and I’m so glad I found Stamford Bookcase Company. They handmake a quality product to your specifications at a very reasonable price - I wasn’t able to find anything comparable elsewhere.

As it’s a small business and we needed delivery up to Scotland, I was prepared to have a longer wait. However, I received a delivery date not long after placing my order, and it was much sooner than anticipated.

Jon is a lovely guy and clearly incredibly hardworking, doing everything himself from making the bookcases to delivering and assembling them in your home. He also took the time to source a different colour rail for the ladder system for me, which was really appreciated.

The whole experience was excellent, and I’m absolutely delighted with the finished bookcase. If you do have to wait, just know it will be worth it!

Ordered a bookcase for my hall. Needed something quite long and low and couldn't find anything that fitted the space in the shops. Came across Stamford Bookcase Company online and they had just what i was looking for.

Everything is made to order and hand delivered and assembled. There was a wait, but that is due to Jon delivering everything himself to keep costs down - and who needs an emergency bookcase.

The bookcase is beautiful, would recommend this company to everyone.

We have had so many compliments on this custom bookcase. There was a delay with our order due to a bereavement, but honestly, it was worth the wait.

It is beautifully made, completely wooden, with no visible metal fittings, and holds our books with ease. The ladder is sturdy and I feel completely safe climbing it. It has that wonderful feeling of something you might find in an old manor house or see in a film. It feels real in a way that so much modern furniture which often costs considerably more & mass produced simply doesn’t. I should know. I spent ages looking for one!

It has character, craftsmanship and a sense that it was made to last.

It is also made by a small family business here in the UK. Of course, buying from a smaller business can sometimes mean a little less flexibility and longer waiting times, but personally, I think that is worth remembering when we’re so used to buying mass-produced furniture that isn't necessarily designed to last.

We’d much rather put our money towards something beautifully made, supporting a UK-based family business, and buy something that we hope will be part of our home for many, many years.

Wow! The bookcase is beautiful; we went with a long low style across the length of our living room and it is a perfect addition to our other furniture. The oak looks brilliant. Jon fitted it in no time at all and oiled the top with no fuss. We would definitely use this company again and would have no hesitation in recommending them.

Researching bookcases, which are capable of holding a considerable volume of books, took a considerable amount of time. I eventually found the Stamford Bookcase Company who were able to provide a bespoke bookcase built to my exact specifications. Having met Jon, who built and delivered the bookcase to my home, many miles from his base, it was clear that he is passionate about what he does, with a strong desire to deliver a quality product and customer satisfaction. Needless to say I am immensely satisfied with my new oak bookcase with the wait well worth it. Thank you.

Not my go to to add a bad review but the experience we had with this company was absolutely ridiculous and I wish we had been warned! They clearly take orders they cannot fulfil or deliver. 5 months we were waiting! All our books were put into storage, some of them now ruined. First there was a bereavement- completely understandable, not a problem, but then when it was meant to be delivered again- the van broke down, then the third time- a delivery took longer so would have to rearrange; I'm not sure why anyone would think delivering to the south west, then London, then Southend on the same day was realistic (also had to call repeatedly to get any update) We finally gave up realising that we would never receive the bookcase and requested a refund (which we received). What a colossal waist of time, do yourself a favour and order else where. I'm sure they are lovely people, but business wise, I can only advise against.

Absolutely in love with my bookcases and ladder, and grateful for Jon's efforts to get them to us. Would recommend 100% and am looking for other rooms to fill now!

A bit of a wait for the bookcase to arrive which was explained by vendor. It is absolutely worth the wait however and I can’t recommend Jon to enough people. We’ve told all our family and friends, and everyone has been very impressed with our very large new bookcase; I will be ordering another for the office very soon. Jon set it up on arrival, and Claudia was absolutely lovely as well. Thank you!

We ordered, and received, sequentially, two 8 feet tall pine bookcases, one wide and one narrow, from Jon's hand made and self delivered business, in 2025 and 2026. Models are PNE-8LD and PNE-8NP. The wide model has a ladder feature, the narrow does not. Our location is in S Wales, so we were, having carefully read the information provided, aware this project would involve some time and patience.

Delivery - the wide unit, received first, arrived in acceptable time, allowing for holidays and other usual shutdown periods, about 4 months. The narrow unit took a little longer but did not cause us any problems.

The writer (75) and Jon were able to move the items from the van to room without undue difficulty. I would suggest to others, respectfully, plan your route in advance, especially for these tall items, and check for awkward corners, narrow passages, and the like. Jon does final assembly on final site, this is very fast, the wide unit came in 2 main pieces plus the corniche head.

Ours are described 'heavy duty' although actual kg are not specified. I did experience one shelf slip, the cleat on one side slipped out, on the wide unit, although I had possibly 50 kg on that single 3 feet wide shelf. I repositioned some of the heavy works and all is well thus far. We have not anchored either unit to walls, but may do so, if we open the room when family are visiting.

Both units look lovely and add a nice woody fragrance in our small study. Not sure if the ladder adds much in practicality, bit it looks the part.

We needed low level oak bookcases one six foot and one eight foot to fit under windows in our Park Home lounge. Jon built and fitted them personally. They fitted beautifully and just what we wanted. Really pleased with their customer response and service

We ordered a bespoke bookcase 2.8m wide and 2.4m tall. We were given a delivery estimate of April and it was delivered and installed late March,on a Sunday!. The quality is 1st class, exactly what we wanted and we really enjoyed meeting John, who actually makes the bookcases.
We would not hesitate to use him again, good things are worth waiting for. Thanks to John and his team.

I ordered two sets of bookcases to house my heavy art books. They took longer than expected to arrive and the communication was a bit erratic, however Jon is a nice bloke and is making and delivering the bookcases himself. The finished product was worth the wait.

My cheap mdf bookshelves were sagging badly with the weight of heavy art books. After some online research, I plumped for Stamford Bookcase Company and booked in three large bookcases in solid pine. Although they took longer to arrive than anticipated, when Jon (such a nice guy!) delivered and fitted them, I was delighted with the result and now my precious collection is sitting pretty.
