awful service - avoid

Like others navigating the online application process was far from straight forward and now when I try to log in sometimes I get sent a code - other times not - very mysterious and frustrating. But am now trying to get through to them on the phone - its ridiculous - like everyone else I have called probably in excess of 20 times to hear the same boring options and how my call will be answered soon!! Then after 2 minutes or so of inane music you get cut off. I have emailed asking for call backs too, to no avail. Terrible customer service. Avoid.

Avoid Melton Building Society at all cost…

I had a very frustrating experience when trying to open a savings account with them. The process was plagued with problems right from the start. I couldn’t even get past the first step, which required verifying my phone number. Despite making multiple attempts over several days, I never received the verification code, no matter what browser I used, which network I was on, or which phone number I tried.

I tried to reach out to their customer service for assistance, however, my experience was equally disappointing. After waiting on hold for about five minutes, I was greeted with a generic message asking me to try again later, and then the call was abruptly disconnected. No matter how many times I called or what time of day I attempted, I was never able to get through to speak to a representative. Their customer support is non-existent.

Reading other negative reviews, it’s clear this has been a persistent issue for years and they obviously do not care about their customers, because if they did, this would not still be happening. And you can dismiss their responses to reviews as they do not reflect any real effort to address the underlying problems. It’s just a superficial attempt to save face.

Do yourself a favour and save yourself the stress, time, and frustration. Do not waste your energy on this bank. There are many other financial institutions that value their customers and provide real support when you need it. This bank’s incompetence and indifference are simply not worth the trouble.

Dinosaur online platform

Have attempted now on several occasions to open a fixed rate savings account online with yourselves sadly to no avail. As a potential new customer your platform is highly frustrating, archaic and not fit for purpose. I’ll be going elsewhere…….

Very poor - choose a competent Society to manage your money

My first contact with this society has been nothing short of dreadful. Giving them even one star feels overly generous. I’ve set up countless online accounts without any difficulty, but their online portal is astonishingly poor.

After several hours of perseverance, we eventually managed to create an account — but long before that point, we had already decided it would be unwise to trust these amateurs with our money. We only continued out of sheer curiosity and amusement.

There were far too many errors on their portal to list, but one particularly ridiculous example was a message saying they needed additional information and asking us to click “here”. The link took us to the Google search homepage. We closed it and carried on, purely for entertainment, for another couple of hours.

Eventually, we did manage to get everything set up and even accessed the portal once. Every attempt after that — around fifteen tries — failed.

Avoid this organisation and choose a bank with an online system that actually works, allows you to sign up in minutes, and reliably gives you access to your account.

I have managed to open a new fixed term…

I have managed to open a new fixed term account after trying for ages and repeatedly entering my details it is almost impossible to navigate their website. Now I’ve been trying to login for half an hour, I tried to enter a strong password suggested by my phone but kept getting the same message “password complexity doesn’t match” so I made up my own complex password and got the same message! So I’ve now given up, as I am unable to deposit any money into my new account, I will have to go to someone else to invest my wodge! I even tried to phone but nobody answered and quite honestly after reading the many negative reviews I’m glad That I’ve not invested.

Impossible to apply

I have tried to apply for one of the savings account, it is impossible. I tried using PC and mobile, at some point there there is a problem to continue. Either a message of the server being down or other "global rate limit exceed" and few other issues. I have given up, if they cannot handle the application process how can I trust them with my money.

Online application problems

Online application system did not recognise my building society sort code, despite it being a very well known household name, did not allow me to input manually the 6 digit sort code, or start a fresh application. Frustrated.

Filling in an application for a fixed…

Filling in an application for a fixed saver was tediously slow waiting to load after each question and a lot of It looked like double Dutch and to cap it all after absolutely ages it said the Server or API is down, please contact system administration. What a waste of time and effort for nothing.

Melton wrongly paid my interest to my…

Melton wrongly paid my interest to my bank instead of my account. I rang and finally got through and was told that I could pay the interest back into my account, but here we are over 6 wks later and although gladly Melton tell me that the interest arrived in their holding account it never appears back in my Account. Telephoning them is a waste of time and money as after about 10 mins on hold they dump you out. Surely it's a simple task to manually add my interest back into my account from their holding account

Great customer service

I have been with the Melton Building Society for many years and have always found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. I get information on various savings accounts and they have always carried out my requests efficiently and on time. It is nice to have a lovely branch to visit as so many banks and building societies do not have local branches. It is nice to know you can call in whenever it is convenient to yourself. I would definitely recommend them to friends and family.

Won't accept an original death certificate for probate

We are trying to gain a probate valuation. It has taken half a day to finally manage to speak with someone after multiple calls. We had posted an original death certificate from the local council registrar to them when many financial institutions are happy with a scanned copy. At no point had they said this before posting it. This was not acceptable to them and did not meet their policy. How much more ludicrous can you get? We have now to get an ORIGINAL death certificate from the registrar certified by e.g. a Dr or solicitor presumably at extra expense. They ignored our point that in any case all they had to do was look up the specific certificate number on the top right of the form. Most unhelpful and difficult to reach company we have contacted.

Professionalism

I've been a valued customer for many year & always liked the personal touch that the Melton Mowbray provided. Recently I received a substantial inheritance I wanted to invest. I was told I would be contacted when the books were ready for collection. No contact after a week so I went in to be told the books would be sent from Stamford to my address. When they arrived I was disgusted by the condition in which the books were sent out. A catalogue of printing mistakes crossed out & stamped in both new books. Very unprofessional to send books out in that condition. To my mind they should have corrected their mistakes on the computer & sent out new books. I went into the local office to get books changed, this was offered but apparently the computer would only print out the same mistakes in the new books. so there we are something I never thought I would experience from the Melton Mowbray.

Not interested in helping existing savers.

Branch closes during the banking day at will. Telephone staff not helpful, Internet access has not worked since IT upgrade. Concern raised per their process 23rd April not acknowledged.

so frustrated that after several weeks…

so frustrated that after several weeks of waiting for promised action, I have made a formal complaint and even that hasn't prompted them to reply - not even an acknowledgement; all my calls still result in a message saying they are too busy to answer. If I leave a message no-one ever calls back. I see that the positive reviews seem to be from customers who wanted to start accounts, or mortgages, whereas once they've hooked you in they cannot even be bothered to give you on line access to confirm how much of your money they have. Ironic that without a response to my complaint I cannot even go to the Financial Ombudsman!

I have seen your reply, I await the reaching out, but am puzzled how you will do that when you dont know the name of the account holder?
