My experience at Walden University has been positive overall. As a registered nurse with over 23 years of nursing experience, I decided to further my education because I want to continue growing professionally and advancing my career as a nurse practitioner. Walden has given me the opportunity to pursue that goal while balancing the demands of working full-time night shifts, being a wife and mother, and managing my other responsibilities.

I appreciate the flexibility of the online learning environment, which allows me to continue my education without putting my career or family life on hold. The coursework has challenged me academically and encouraged me to think more critically, strengthen my clinical knowledge, and grow as a future advanced practice nurse.

Although balancing school, work, and family can be overwhelming at times, I am proud of my progress and the fact that I have maintained a 4.0 GPA. My experience has required discipline, dedication, and sacrifice, but I believe the knowledge and skills I am gaining will make me a better healthcare provider. Overall, I am grateful for the opportunity to invest in my future while continuing to do what I love—caring for patients.

Some of the instructors and my Student Support Advisor (SSA)help make my experience at Walden great. The instructor connected with me personally by phone and built a relationship with me to understand who I am and what life activities I was managing while earning my degree at Walden. My SSA contacted me every three weeks (at my discretion) with encouragement, suggestions for navigating barriers, and genuine concern for my success at Walden.

I have reached out and the Field office ongoing communication has been absolutely wonderful- she has not given up on me- My advisor Craig is really positive and he has not given up on me- they made the difference- The IT a few issues with getting a video sent for the last class I had and they were really great with helping a tech "dumbie" like me get it sent properly- The preceptor is the issue and exhausting - but I am trying

My experience in Walden University’s Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) program has been exceptionally positive and rewarding. The program provides a strong academic foundation, meaningful learning opportunities, and excellent preparation for advanced practice in mental health care. The faculty are knowledgeable, supportive, and genuinely committed to student success. Their guidance, encouragement, and expertise have helped me grow both personally and professionally. I’m grateful to be pursuing my goals at Walden and highly recommend this program to nurses who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of individuals and families affected by mental health challenges.

Great faculty and instructors who don't overwhelm you with homework, and they engage with the students and answer any questions we might have promptly.

The constructive feedback given after every post and discussion made me more aware of how I can improve in the next step.

very helpful and motivating staff

I gave a 2/5 because I was successful in completing a masters degree with Walden. The Nursing Field Experience Office shows little to no regard to helping students successfully onboard preceptors and medical practices in a timely manner. The process is convoluted and communication is sparse regarding the process and whether or not you are on the way to being successfully reviewed or not. Even now when I'm one class away from completing my certificate, I cannot say that I am better prepared or more certain of this onboarding process. Once I am done with this coursework, I AM DONE. For future educational endeavors I will absolutely go to another organization.

Dislikes: fin aid reps and acct mgrs are unprofessional, rude, and inconsiderate often; Charlotte Bot does not work most of the time; no one to facilitate writing resources instead students are expected to go to writing center or library; staff do not inform students of auto registration which impacts fin stability; lack of patience among all faculty members when students have more than one question; too many tech problems, fin aid dept should be reformed with new training and restaffed

Walden University is wonderful and the professors and counselors provide so much support that I have never had at another college.

**Flexible Learning, but Administrative Support Needs Improvement**

As a doctoral student at Walden University, I appreciate the flexibility of asynchronous learning, which allows me to balance my education with professional and personal responsibilities. However, my experience with the administrative side of the university has been less positive.

Communication is a significant area needing improvement, particularly ensuring that published email addresses are valid, actively monitored, and that student inquiries receive timely, meaningful responses. Additionally, the financial aid process has felt unnecessarily restrictive and burdensome, especially when requesting reasonable cost-of-living adjustments. While I understand the need for institutional oversight, greater transparency, consistency, and individualized consideration would make a meaningful difference.

Walden offers a valuable learning format, but the administrative experience should reflect the same commitment to student success that the university promotes academically. Students should feel supported throughout their educational journey, not just in the classroom.
