I especially appreciate Emanuel's approach to language-learning - he focuses more on ease than perfection. Less grammar tables and more useful tips to get by.

It was a stroke of luck that I happened on this website. It has been many years since I studied German. Even though my grandfather was from Stuttgart, without someone to converse with, German had become a forgotten language. This program has brought it back. His lessons are thorough, but they are also humorous. He also explains how the language became what it is. Personally, my favorite part is not the lesson itself, but the greeting beforehand. The reading practice I get there is invaluable. Everything is designed to make the language accessible, rather than frightening. The program does offer help for those who need it, as well as answers to any questions. Learning a language has never felt so positive.

for learning not just the nitty gritty bits of German but stuff you actually use in everyday language. Thomas breaks things down and explains in a way that gives you a sense of how the language functions, not just memorising grammar.

Really useful idiomatic and contemporary German words and phrases explained with wit and clarity so that erudition is combined with humour. The quizzes and explanations are particularly helpful.

Emmanuel writes great articles, which are very well explained, in easy to understand terms. I don't usually enjoy learning grammar, and often find the way it is explained overly complicated. Emmanuel's site takes German grammar, known for being complex, and makes it accessible--and even at times, gasp!, fun.
