No longer in uk . Still taking fees

Be warn that now the company is not working in uk but still can direct you to pay for subscription or entry fee as the vehicles shows available. And there is no notification that is no longer available in uk. Getting a refund from them seems impossible as they are closing any new ticket sent to them.

Shocking company, illegally taking money

Despite this company closing its UK operations soon which to be honest is not surprising!
They have taken an annual fee from my account 2 years in a row. An account that was closed!
I have been promised a refund of my £99 for 3 weeks now and am still waiting only to be told there is nothing they can do the matter has been escalated to the business department (that you cannot speak to) Monday this week was told refund woyld he in my account 2-3 working days, 5 days in still not refund and met by an extremely rude guy on the phone telling me nothing he can do
I might add ince again money was taken without my consent, I have been extremely patient and from today am escalating complaint
Please if you are in a similar situation I urge you to do the same. This company is going to close and our money will go with it!
On their website they also state all refunds will be processed by end of January which is clearly a lie.

No one to take care of them

They park down our road about 10 cars at a time which stops anyone else parking. Most nights their alarm starts going off with no one to turn them off.

Flat tire? They will charge you!

Tired went flat on a trip back on a Sunday trip, customer service nearly impossible to reach and have charged us the full price +£256 claiming we should have reported the flat tire at the beginning of the hire?!
No spare tire on the vehicle and customer service applies computer says no attitude. Zipcar will not consider a flat tire to be of vehicle maintenance and will simply charge you. Will not be using zip car anymore

Zip car is currently not refunding any…

Zip car is currently not refunding any membership fees which cover the period after 1.1.26 ( end date of uk operations).
They are saying they will do so once consultations with uk staff are concluded, but can’t give any info regarding when this might be.
They automatically deducted a full year membership from my account on 6.12.25 ( after they had accounced that they would cease uk operations).
I am not a lawyer, but might look into the legality of such business practices, especially as no specific date is given when or if the membership will be refunded.

Car broke down 1 hour into 5 hour hire

Car broke down 1 hour into 5 hour hire. Was left on side of m25 motorway with 3 over 80 year olds in freezing cold for 2 hours and had lots of problems with zip car. They charged me still for full hire and also late return fee and extra hours rental even tho car is broken down and unfixable. Treated very poor and didn't care about customer at all. Only want your money and wont help when all goes wrong. Avoid if possible as if things go wrong you will have big problems resolving them with zip car.

Genuinely one of the worst customer…

Genuinely one of the worst customer service experiences I’ve had.

First car booked wouldn’t start due to a low battery and was filthy.

Completely unusable.

Zipcar then forced me to travel across London at my own expense to find another car.

Second car (LB74 HPK) was also faulty – start/stop ignition barely worked, tyre pressure warning on, rear tyre was at 27 PSI instead of 37, and I had to pay to inflate it myself.

Despite all this, Zipcar charged me an extra £38.67 for “extra miles” while completely ignoring my refund request raised on 24 December.

When I called, I was told delays were because “it’s the holidays” — not my problem as a paying customer.

Poorly maintained vehicles, unsafe conditions, hidden charges, and zero accountability.

Not surprised they’re going out of business in the UK.

Use literally any alternative.

Zipcar disconnected their in-app support

Zipcar have now disconnected their in-app phone support for all U.K. customers. If you have ANY issue, you can no longer contact them. They make me pay extra for roadside assistance, and now don’t offer the assistance. Car dirty when you hire? Can’t talk to them. Something wrong? Can’t talk to them. Zipcar has become such a joke. Do not use a car hire company that you can’t contact if something goes wrong. Much like other reviews here, if they do find anything wrong they’ll charge you at the full rate without giving you any notice to appeal. I honestly wish I could give zero stars.

Zipcar informed me about the parking…

Zipcar informed me about the parking penalties almost one month later.
By the time I was notified, Zipcar had already paid the fines early and closed the cases, without giving me any chance to pay them myself at a discounted rate.
I already paid the £40 towing charge, yet I was still billed £160 + £30 twice.
Even though I ended my trip properly, Zipcar refused to take responsibility.
This practice feels unfair and misleading, and results in unnecessary financial loss for customers.
I strongly recommend checking all charges carefully when using ZipCar

Scam!!!

I wish I could give them 0 star.
Completely SCAM! Avoid it at any cost.
Absolutely unacceptable experience. I was charged the full daily rate plus over-mileage, resulting in a total cost that was outrageous— in the end I paid almost three times more than a black cab. This is not what any reasonable customer expects.

The pricing is completely non-transparent. You think you know what you’re paying, then later they charge you much more and receive emails demanding even more money. Cars are often provided with little or no fuel or battery, so you spend your own money to refuel or recharge, only to later be charged and chased again for additional charges. On top of that, they penalise you for parking just a few metres away.

Customer service is nonexistent and it is almost impossible to reach them by email or phone. I had an issue with the car, which had no fuel, and I spent more than 30 minutes trying to call them before eventually giving up.

This service feels misleading from start to finish. What should be convenient turns into stress, frustration, and shocking costs. Based on my experience, I will never use Zipcar again and I strongly advise others to avoid it.

Zipcar suspended me for damages I reported!

Zipcar suspended my account due to damages to their car when I was the one that reported as you're supposed to. So, I booked a car on 3rd November 2025 at 09.43am. Saw damages, took pictures at 09.44am, reported those damages on the 3rd November 2025. I had noticed one evening that I couldn't book a car, but thought it was a glitch. The next day I got an email on the 28th November 2025 accusing me of the damage I reported to them! So, I responded to the email sending the pictures again. The pictures are also time stamped but in case they didn't have the ability, I showed them the picture with the time stamp showing. I provided all of this on the day I booked the car and then again when they accused and suspended me so that's twice I sent proof to them. Why did it take so long to contact about damage when its been reported in time? Why has this not been resolved? It has been escalated to a different department. Great. The guilty party will not have evidence of the damages before they've driven the car. I do have pictures of damages before driving the car! Is there not a black box the records accidents in your vehicles?

Zipcar the concept is good, but the underhand behaviour is not

Zipcar the concept is good, but having discovered how they make extra money on the side at the expense of members is disgusting. If you incur a parking charge (even if it is invalid and you have proof of this) they pay the charge on your behalf which with most parking fines automatically accepts liability so you cannot contest it yourself, they then hold on to it for 5-8 weeks before send it to you so it is also out of time, they then charge you the full amount taking it straight from your bank account, pocketing not only the difference between the reduced amount they paid 'on your behalf' for the fine in the first instance and the inflated cost for 'late payment' but also adding on an 'admin' fee of £30, On top of this they do not take phone calls and hardly ever respond to emails, and when they do weeks later they find so excuse to make it your fault and get out of refunding the money incorrectly taken
