Second time of using them.
I used this company for my labrador and I found them to be better than expected (I was dreading having to deal with a pet insurance company when the time came)
My dog did only require a minor op when she was 9 and then help re her passing. But both times I found them easy to get hold of / actually friendly / and really straight forward and easy to deal with. The reimbursement payment was made within days.
Then today I spoke with Dan (who I recognised his voice and very professional and very helpful being from my earlier correspondence) when booking in my new dog’s insurance. I was able to understand and be happy with everything that I was being told and feeling confident in proceeding ahead with the policy. So thank you Dan !

I have had to claim twice for one of my rabbits and both times the claim has been accepted (I always worry that insurance companies will do all they can to get out of paying out, despite the issues being covered by the policy).

A truly terrible pet insurance company. They will find absolutely any reason not to pay a claim even if its contrary to evidence provided to them by your vet.
More fool me for staying with them after the first claim was denied I suppose, but I'll be severing my contract. I've come to the conclusion that I cannot rely on them and that's the bare minimum I ask for in exchange for my monthly fees (which by the way has gone up from a competitive rate to an exorbitant one - taking advantage of an aging cat on a 'for life' policy). At least I know where I stand with a credit card.
If you're looking to start a policy with them, AVOID, as I say literally a credit card would be preferable to letting them rinse you in your time of need. A truly money hungry and heartless operation.
There are lots of genuinely good pet insurance companies out there - try them instead, I wish I had.
[edit: they have replied so that they can 'look into this further' - I have already been forced to make a complaint (which is basically their appeals system) which has been upheld with opaque reasoning which I am still asking for clarity on. It has taken months to get any clear reason for why they won't pay the claim and I can only presume they are waiting for me to just give up. Do not believe their faux concern in response to low reviews here, it is all performative]

I got through to Jane who explained how to make a claim and discussed something called a pre authorisation for Ruby's planned surgery. Everything was really well explained and Jane even said she was happy to go through all the information again. Really refreshing to hear and I could tell she genuinely cared about my dog. 4 Paws thank you its really put my mind at ease during a worrying time.

This feedback is written with deep frustration with the service provided by 4Paws before and after my claim.
The claim itself took 3 months to resolve and sadly between this, no empathy or care was shown. While 4paws have admitted they provided unprofessional and inappropriate emails about the claim, they once again keep a customer in complete darkness when a reply is sent back.
Following a negative review left by my wife regarding the distressing claim situation, we were contacted straight away by a representative (Lauren) who is a team leader who appeared keen to resolve the matter and regain our trust.
However, after we responded to her request for further information and clarity we have once again been met with total radio silence and I have now sent four emails to Lauren directly with no reply.
It is highly unprofessional to offer a public apology and an invitation to discuss a claim further, only to ignore the subsequent correspondence. This "damage control" approach without any actual follow-up has only added to the stress of an already difficult situation.
I expected a higher standard of customer care and transparency.
At this stage, I cannot recommend 4Paws to any pet owner who expects reliable communication and professional conduct.

4 Paws have covered my super unlucky 8 year old through 2 different cancer surgeries and treatment, as well as cruciate ligament surgery. The team genuinely seem to care when you talk to them.

My dog had a straight forward injury that required an operation. They keep asking questions not related to this and making untrue accusations and making us feel like we have lied. They are just dragging it out and finding ways not to pay out. They are rude and unhelpful and don't care about the stress inflicted. We have been honest and up front from the day we took the policy but they make out you haven't documented certain things. It should not be this hard, in which is steady a stressful situation

I have life pet insurance and they deal with any claims quickly and efficiently. I appreciate they can't always cover every claim, but the process of claiming is made as simple and quick as possible. You can always talk to a real human being on the phone and they are always so friendly, kind and helpful. I have no hesitation in giving this company 5 stars, based on my experience so far. So refreshing to deal with such an efficient, friendly team.

Avoid at all cost. It took over 3 months to deal with my claims, they asked me over and over the same information. I kept sending everything and they asked again and again…
My cat has been diagnosed with kidney disease last year, his first ever issue. He is now almost 14 years old so for the 2026 renewal the cost went from £360 to £872 - so more than house or car insurance. They obviously know that at that point we don’t have a choice if we want to keep an insurance. There should be more regulations and a limit on how much price increases… it is despicable.

Quite simply this is an insurance company that is keen to make as much money from their customers as possible. The only positive is that they have the video vet service included in the plan.
As an anxious pet owner I have only ever followed veterinary advice (and have done so to the letter). However they will scrutinise your vet notes for *any* sign that they can reject a claim.
When my beloved cat died they rejected a £3000 claim on the grounds of it being a ‘pre-existing condition’ even though it was simply impacting the same organ (the bladder) that had been cause of a vet visit 10 years prior (and my own vet said you could not reasonably link the two). The stress of dealing with the company on top of losing my cat was unbearable.
I now feel trapped as my other cat has a life policy with 4Paws. The yearly rate has gone up exponentially despite having never made a claim - the rate has gone from just under £20 a month to nearly £70. I am now needing to make a claim (pre-authorisation) and they are querying me and my vet at every stage. My vet said that they have not experienced an insurance company like it.
At a time when you are at your most vulnerable they cause undue stress and anxiety. I would not recommend that anyone start a policy with 4Paws.
