This is the second year I have used Byways they are ace. Friendly, helpful and knowlegable. They provide a perfect rail holiday. Giving you all the freedom of feeling that you are on your own, you are, with the constant back up of their great travel app. Great!

Great experience, well organised
Thoroughly enjoyed our first European train trip and appreciated the organisation done for us by Byways. Every connection worked well and the hotels were just great. It was good to know that there was someone to provide support during the trip, although not needed. Definitely recommend to anyone wanting to avoid all the hassle and carbon emissions of flying.

Supportive staff encouraged confidence for first rail trip.
We were keen to travel by rail and a friend recommended this company and it lived up to expectations From the outset we found exploring the options on the website good and then finalising our options through a phone call was easy. For first timers getting to grips with the Rail Planner app takes awhile but in addition to a useful zoom seminar there was phone back up. The overall quality of our dealings with staff whether through phone, email or WhatsApp has been excellent and all of them had extreme patience in dealing with the likes of us!

Outstanding support in a crisis!
They helped us plan the holiday and offered useful suggestions and ideas. It was lovely leaving all the booking of the trains and accomodation to Byway which all worked perfectly. The support was instant and when we were stranded in France on a broken down train, the support via Whatsapp was so reassuring and instant, trying to change our next train. They stayed in contact until 3am and we were safely in our hotel. Outstanding service!

Excellently organised holiday with one or two unusual aspects.
Well organised holiday on a somewhat unusual itinerary. My journey with Byways followed on from some earlier travel (not arranged by Byways) and was therefore one-way. I needed a special arrangement to receive all the Byways documentation before I left home for the earlier trip, which was in a remote area with uncertain wi-fi facilities. This was achieved. My Byways journey involved an overnight ferry and rail transport through Germany and France, with various stops on route. The hotels chosen had charm or historic interest - sometimes both. I needed special assistance from Byways via Whats App following an accident and injury. This involved changing a reservation from a seat on an upper carriage deck to a lower carriage deck. Due to heavily booked trains, this required a significant change of route at short notice. It was done super-efficiently and very kindly, appreciated all the more because my confidence had taken a hit. I would certainly use Byways again if I was planning a similar type of trip. Very useful to have experience of them as I seek ways to avoid plane travel whenever possible.

European rail travel made easy
We've just returned from a fabulous trip. Byway put together an excellent itinerary for us to enjoy. All travel arrangements, including a last minute coach booking to get us to Verona when a rail strike threatened to disrupt our journey were excellent . The detailed, bespoke journey planner made it hard to go wrong. An excellent website, easy booking system great hotel choices and first rate customer service. Highly recommend.

We have now had four holidays with Byway. They have all been well organised and have been on itineraries which we have chosen. The choice of hotels is good, the preparation for using the slightly scary Interrail app excellent and the support during the trip (rerouting to avoid difficulties etc) excellent. We had a delightful Italy trip - four cities and all by train! Instead of being bored waiting in airport lounges, we watched the beautiful country side! We had a great trip around Scandinavia. We were able to tailor our itinerary and the advance information Byway provided was clear and comprehensive. We enjoyed having all the trains and hotels booked, but then being free to do what we wished at each location. Byway’s customer service during our holiday was excellent and if there were any queries the Byway team replied by WhatsApp within minutes.

Really fantastic company - helped us to craft our perfect honeymoon fitting in everything we wanted, gave lots of information and prepared a very useful itinerary for before we went giving details of our tickets and everything we needed to do beforehand, and when we were actually on holiday, provided round the clock advice and helped iron out any issues with travel we encountered. I couldn't recommend them highly enough!

Byway were incredibly helpful throughout the planning, booking and travelling stages of my visit to Copenhagen. Not all the trains ran on time, so their back up support was invaluable. They helped me select good quality budget accommodation and the whole process was smooth from start to finish.

Interesting and flexible itinerary
The flexibility of the itinerary was a real bonus along with the really helpful staff. We thoroughly enjoyed travelling by train - lots of time to just gaze as well as read a few books over the whole journey there and back. The hotels were also well chosen with good proximity to city/village life.

Another brilliant trip with Byway
Another brilliant trip with Byway, we can’t recommend them enough. The availability of a WhatsApp group throughout the trip makes sorting out any issues very easy. The response time from the team is excellent (even at a weekend!!). It’s a great way to travel and we will definitely use them again (already booked for later in the year!!).
