Collected my dollars and returned the balance after the holiday. The website for calculating the returned amount was awful. Apparently they are updating the website. But money was in my account the next day. So my experience is better than others I have read about.

I placed a Cash order for Japanese yen yesterday (2nd Oct) for collection at their Waterloo branch today at the rate of just over £1 = 178JPY. The order confirmation stated:

"Your current collection date, 03/10/2023, from 2:00 pm"

Beneath it, it states: "Exchange rate will be held for 2 hours after which the exchange rate at the time of collection maybe given."

The statement above is also what it states on their website - I interpreted that information as the rate I ordered will be honoured within the 2hrs of my collection date & time.

I arrive to collect the currency before 3pm on collection day (today), and the customer service agent stated that I will be charged with the exchange rate at the current moment of collection which turns out to be just over £1 = 176JPY - lower than what I ordered.

When I queried this, the agent informed that the "Exchange rate will be held for 2 hours" refers to the time of when the order was placed, NOT when it is to be collected.

Given that I place a cash order, and the earliest they offer collection is at least from the next day onwards, the exchange rate I ordered will never be honoured and I will always be charged with the rate at collection. The information on their website and on the order confirmation is not clear and I found to be misleading for me.

Had I known this, I would never had used COG and would have went with Sterling FX - as the exchange rate of JPY is on a daily decline recently.

I had a really poor experience and I will never trust nor use COG again.

I had reservations but they did what they said they would do.

First time using this company for holiday money but can't fault them at all. Buying process was easy and next day delivery with royal mail was brilliant. We also used the buy back service which was a little confusing to use at first but was sorted straight away by Sam. Much better buy back rate than post office ect. Will definitely use again.
