Highly recommend Healios

My son had 3 previous referrals through paediatrics and Camhs and we were starting to bang our heads against a brick wall his first assessment we were told it was because he was a lockdown baby they all have problems! He’s just naughty he will grow out of it ! Second referral through Camhs they said he had traits of autism and discharged him and saying it could just be age related behaviours! Third referral he was put on the waiting list then Healios came along !! From start to finish the ladies were friendly we did have a couple of issues with my son getting upset so the appointment was rescheduled we had another appointment booked the same day and the appointment a couple of days later ! They listened to us which was something we felt we didn’t have through previous referrals! My son enjoyed talking to the ladies and playing games! I would highly recommend Healios to anyone and to be fair I’ve had a few parents tell me they are in the same boat as us and they are frustrated and I tell them Healios were brilliant! My son had assessments for Autism and ADHD which took approximately 6hrs in total and we had the results/ report back in 4 weeks and we then received a follow up phone call to see what we thought about the results ! If we had questions and they explained what will happen after receiving the results!

Understanding and patient

Our assessment involved 2 different professionals who were both patient, understanding and explained anything in detail anything I was unsure of.
Online assessment I was dubious of but actually it helped my child being in their own home where they felt comfortable, and they were not pressured when they found things difficult.

I had my doubts to be honest

I had my doubts to be honest, as an online assessment wasn't in my plan. And getting a child to engage online could cause a problem. But I have to say from beginning to end it was an exceptional experience. Shout out to Megan, who listened to what I said and took it on board. She also got my daughter to engage which was no mean feat.

Highly recommend Healios!! …

My honest review is that this company went above all my expectations!!
The team communicated well, with empathy and compassion for what we are going through.
Expect lots of forms and filling in is expected for the service as a whole. However, support with any problems were a phone call or email away and always answered.
My report and feedback was in depth, professional and more informative than my other child’s NHS one. Since the official report we have also been able to receive support from outside agencies.
Healios were also quick with the process, from start to finish was around 6-8 weeks (after 12 years on NHS waiting list!)

Everything is completed online, so you will need a laptop, especially for the interview with your child.

Awful patient support - Do not use Helios if you are an NHS right to choose patient.

The support team ignore emails and requests for help, or pass your questions onto someone else and then you never hear back. This happened several times. It's the worst customer support I've ever had to deal with.

The main issue is that I was referred by my GP under the NHS right to choose scheme, which meant the assessment was covered by the NHS.

However after I was diagnosed the only care they offered me was a referral to their other private company for medication. The initial cost being £995. As an NHS patient this is of zero help to me. When I tried to contact them to ask why the medication is not provided under the right to choose NHS scheme, I was ignored, multiple times. My GP even tried to contact them, and was ignored.

If you are looking to be diagnosed and to get medication under the NHS, do not use Helios. Make sure whoever does your diagnosis will also provide medication under the NHS and is willing to offer a shared care agreement with your GP, so they can take over prescribing and you do not have to pay high prices.

Post-diagnosis I feel that I got zero help. It does not say anywhere on their website that they will not provide medication under the NHS. It vaguely mentions support and care for patients but in my experience there was none.

This is all based on my own opinions and experience.

We appreciate how frustrating and disappointing it must have been to feel unsupported after your assessment, particularly when you were seeking further help.

Changes to NHS Right to Choose contracts mean we are no longer able to provide ADHD prescribing services under the Right to Choose pathway. We recognise this has affected patients who were expecting to access medication as part of their care with Healios, and we are empathic to the uncertainty and inconvenience this may cause.

We also acknowledge your feedback regarding how this was communicated, we did not handle that clearly enough, and I understand the impact that has had on you. We are reviewing how to communicate these recent changes more clearly.

Incredible service

Incredible service. So glad my assessment was done with Healios. The clinicians were so kind and understanding. I had a tech issue during my second session and the clinician didn’t hesitate to reschedule which meant a lot for me. Forever grateful. (As a bonus, my report came in almost 2 weeks, super speedy when I expected it to come at least 4-6 weeks.) the report was so detailed and thorough, couldn’t be happier. Thank you so much Healios, will definitely recommend this service.

Son had his assessment 12/13 weeks ago, timeline given was 6-8 weeks for the diagnosis and still waiting despite numerous emails asking for an outcome and all I receive is “pass it onto the manager”

No clear timelines for outcome of assessment

My daughter's first assessment was cancelled at short notice on the morning of the appointment as the clinician was off sick. We had already arranged for her to have the day off school. As my daughter is suspected of ASD she took very badly to this last minute change and ended up having a meltdown and refused to go to school.

A new appointment was quickly arranged a few days later and the actual appointment seemed to go well.

However since then there has been no follow-up care whatsoever. They just said they would let me know when the report was ready. Since then I have heard nothing.

After a month I emailed for an update and they said that the outcome is usually ready in 4-6 weeks. It has now been over 2 months and I have heard nothing.

I have emailed again to chase up twice and have not even received a response. Very disappointing service with no clear timelines.

Unfortunately, the session had to be cancelled due to clinician sickness. It was important to us that we rearranged the appointment quickly so she could continue with her assessment.

A really infantilising experience

Felt really invalidated, the only part involving me involved no questions apart from unrelated things like “do you want to get married”and other questions of that nature. I also had to do some activities that made me feel infantilised and a bit stupid, especially as I wasn’t fourteen at the time. As well as this, a lot of the evidence for my diagnosis came from what my parents said which I do think is unreliable due to them not remembering much about my childhood, and as I wasn’t there to explain the context these situations were taken at face value. Some things in my report were jsut not true as well and I left feeling really confused. To make things worse I was discharged with no further support despite having fairly high anxiety and depression symptoms.

Breathe of fresh air

My son has been under oxleas for a year waiting for assessment. Today we got out assessment at home via video was very nice being home while doing this.
Felt you could be honest and safe saying what issues I saw with his needs.
The lady was very friendly explained all to me very well. My son had his part the next day and he was comfortable in his own home.
I reccomend this as I felt listened to and heard I belive he will get the help required as he goes from stregth to strength.

My son was on the waiting list with…

My son was on the waiting list with CAMHS for almost 2 years. One day in October 2024 I received an email from them offering us the chance to go through Healios. They said it would all be done online/video call. I don’t like participating in video calls due to my anxiety, but CAMHS told us the wait times would be considerably shorter. Considering my son had waited 2 years already and had also been referred to CAMHS when he was about 7 years old, but was eventually discharged without a diagnosis due to us missing one appointment that THEY had changed at the last minute whilst we were on our honeymoon, I felt I had to accept the offer of going through Healios. I did check reviews out for them and was a bit concerned, however, they have been nothing but amazing! I felt so at ease with them during the video calls, all 3 consultants listened to everything my son and I had to say, I can’t fault them. From October 2024 to January 2025, the whole process was complete and my son received the diagnoses we were certain he would. They also offer a feedback session after diagnosis, where you can ask any questions you have. We’ve also completed this now and all of our questions have been answered. We’re so happy to have answers and for the fact that the process was so fast and stress free!

My daughter only spent 40 minutes with…

My daughter only spent 40 minutes with the clinician, and I spent an hour completing the parent assessment. How can anyone possibly expect to gather enough information for a proper diagnosis in that short amount of time? I’ve spoken to others who had face-to-face assessments and were in sessions for hours. The comparison is night and day.

The lack of thoroughness in the process is staggering. Various professionals, including her school and CAMHS, have expressed concern that my daughter has been let down by this service. In the end, I’ve had to go private, which is incredibly frustrating and disappointing after all the waiting.

I truly wish someone had warned me about Healios before I wasted time and energy on this. If you’re considering this service, my advice would be to wait for a face-to-face assessment instead—anything other than this rushed and inadequate online process. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.
