I used National Van Lines in my cross country move and was beyond dissatisfied with their customer service, the process as a whole, and their willingness to help with problems they created. I signed a contract with a guaranteed delivery window of June 8th-June 22nd, and did not receive my items until July 12th. Furthermore, I contacted the company multiple times while waiting and was given no information and could not get my calls returned until I was able to get in touch with their director of customer service, who also eventually stopped responding. My items were dropped off at a warehouse in Phoenix where I was moving from on June 3rd and were not even picked up to be delivered to South Carolina until the 26th of June, despite the fact that I was guaranteed delivery by the 22nd. Because of the extreme delay I incurred over $700 in additional expenses for hotels, clothes, and other items that I was not aware I would need.
When my items finally did arrive, the driver was extremely rude, refused to help with any assembly even though that was a part of what I paid for. Multiple items were also damaged in the move, about $450 worth of damage. When I filed a claim, as I was directed to do by customer service, they simply said that the damage was not great enough for them to do anything.
While I would like to be compensated in some way for the trouble, the disrespect and poor treatment, and the horrible experience, I do understand that is highly unlikely. However, I want to warn anyone else who might make the mistake of using this company. They are over-priced, and treat their customers reprehensibly.
National Van LInes has excellent sales personnel, who are responsive and efficient -- and make great promises that the company falls way short on. I would give them 1 star. Buyer Beware! Whereas you are promised a high dollar limit on claims, the company refuses to pay claims, despite substantially damaging furniture and leaving labeled items to be moved behind in the place that you moved from. When you file a claim, the claim is denied. When you counter the claim denial, the rationale for denying the claim then changes. I would highly recommend avoiding using this company!
Horrific company. They are a broker and as soon as I signed the contract, stop returning calls or emails. Five days before the move, National Van Lines charged an additional $4,000 for the move. I sent pictures with dimensions of every piece of furniture that was being moved. Two days before the move, I get a call from a different company (Jackson Movers) saying they will be conducting the move. Jackson Movers then charged an additional $3,000 the day they arrived for bogus charges and work they didn't even do. I can't express how horrific National Van Lines is. They should have begun by disclosing that they sold the account and they are just brokers who can care less about their or their contractor's service once you sign on the dotted line.
The worst moving experience I have ever had. So many furniture pieces damaged. They could care less about your about your belongings. Blaming others for the damages. Owner and management unethical!
Do not hire this company!!
Recently used National Van Lines for a large Chicago to NJ move and have only positive things to say. They were the first to respond to my online inquiries and were extremely fair priced. Sam Meredith at the Chicago office guided me through the entire process and was very responsive to my (many) questions along the way. Driver Jamie Burns and his crew showed up on time and did a great careful job with the packing, loading and unloading. Highly recommended!

I do not recommend. We had a terrible experience with this mover. They contract their labor. Packers and movers caused quite a bit of damage. We had the highest levels of carrier liability with $0 deductible and $125,000 maximum level of protection. That's full replacement value protection and the most comprehensive plan available. They were obligated to compensate to repair or restore, but that didn't happen. We also purchased the full service VIP option that included full packing, crating and uncrating, and a $50,000 damage protection policy. All apparently worthless.
Premier Van and Storage was the agent for National Van Lines. National reimbursed us for only 16% of the amount of our claim. And they declined to reply to any of my notes to them. Careless damages, lack of compensation, and lack of communication. I would keep looking if you're searching for a quality mover.
We were told conflicting information about when Packers and loaders were coming. Were told would pack one day and load the next. Happened all in one day.
Were told there would be 3 packets. 3 people showed up but one walked around the house and quit. I do feel bad for the other 4 people who worked very hard and efficiently. I have no problem with them. But the communication and information from National was very poor and disappointing.
Driver was late and didn't know what he was doing. Movers damaged many pieces of furniture and every single one of our boxes had some kind of damage. 75 inch TV was damaged by the movers. Don't use.
Moved from Florida to Utah. Company said it would be in transit for about 7-10 days and ended up taking 31. When our stuff finally arrived it was delivered by a completely different company than who had picked it up. At least 90 percent of our items were damaged, completely broken, or taken apart with no one able to re assemble them. Our mattress had been drug through the dirt and mulch and other furniture had black stains on it. There was absolutely no regard for our items and the company, even though we filled out the paperwork has yet to be in contact to rectify this issue...whatever you do, do not use this company no matter what. They will destroy everything you own, lie to you, and take zero accountability for everything they do.
I received a call the day before our cross country move date to try to get me to reschedule which at that time I made them aware that I could not.
CS stated that no one accepted this load until the night before.
The crew showed with no packing materials. A moving company with nothing to pack the kitchen, and artwork even after I did a video call inventorying kitchen and paintings.
Cesar the leader who arrived first at 7:50am, quit and drove off at 9am and never came back.
After several calls to Tiffany in CS I came up with idea myself that the two workers who were left go to Home Depot and buy materials.
There was no mattress bags/covers even after I did a video call inventorying bedrooms. Other furniture was placed on the truck unprotected which I made them pull it back off, and repack
After 8 phone calls with Tiffany in CS, Lori (her supervisor) made me aware that this case had not been escalated. Even after the leader walked off the job, and with a crew too small to do the job, and no packing materials. So all the phone calls to Tiffany saying they were escalating to Operations was not true.
Several items were loaded with insufficient protection. Shrink wrapping alone does not protect furniture from a long distance move. When workers shrink wrap their hands go right through when they carry the items leaving them open to dirt and insects etc... (I have pictures that were taken inside the truck to verify)
Lori, (CS supv) said that they would take the truck to their Broadview office to "re-pack" properly things that had been improperly pack.
Several items were left behind because there was insufficient packing materials and boxes. Coffee maker, knife set, tea pot, cookware etc...
Paintings were put between mattresses instead of being boxed and protected.
It took a 2 person crew 13hrs which put us a day behind on our relocation plans.
I wanted to deal with National Van Lines exclusively. When 3rd or 4th parties are brought in this is what happens.
I am an 85-year-old woman who moved across country from Oregon to Georgia to live closer to my daughter so she could help take care of me. National promised my belongings would be delivered safely and on time. That promise was not kept. I waited for six days past the contract deadline, on borrowed lawn furniture, for my belongings to arrive. I was compensated $50/day for late arrival on a bill for well over $12,000. When the van finally showed up, I discovered much of my furniture, most of which was under six months old, heavily damaged. One piece of furniture wasn't even on the truck. One of the movers was in such a hurry to leave my house, he ripped the fabric of my new couch right before my eyes and didn't utter a word. The movers didn't set my bed up correctly before leaving, either, and the driver told me he spent two days enjoying himself in Las Vegas while on the way to Georgia. I filed a claim report for nearly $3,000 for the damaged furniture, and National sent a check for $216 to cover the claim. I then filed a claim dispute, was repeatedly told it was being handled, and six weeks later was informed that $216 was all I would receive as compensation - all strictly according to the contract, as stated by National. I strongly advise against hiring National Van Lines for a move. (Review written for me by my son.)
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!! I wish I could give them a beg FAT NEGATIVE for stars! What a Fu*king Sh* SHOW!! Oh where do I begin! They were almost 2 weeks later than the original quoted timeframe, leaving us to buy a new mattress and sleep on the hardwood floor. SEVERAL items were damaged, and they WILL NOT PAY FOR THEM. We were asked if we wanted to count the items, but we're also told that the movers didn't have time. One of our cushions from a chair is missing and it costs more to have one custom made, than to buy a new chair. They lost one of our twin mattresses, and parts to a twin bed. However, "we didn't do the count" so we got screwed! Another damaged item is a piece of art that we paid $1000 for , from not being wrapped properly. Of course, they are not reimbursing us for that either. This is such a lazy and crappy company. We will NEVER use or recommend this company again!
NVL recently moved us from NC to VA. The total short move cost us $4,770.91, which included $410.00 for insurance which carried a $500 deductible. Didn't understand why I had to pay such a high deductible, when I never had to pay this with any other moving company I previously used, and trust me, we moved a lot. Unfortunately one of my night stands that made it from Texas to NC undamaged with Evolution Movers, couldn't make it from NC to VA without NVL damaging my $830 (before taxes), Night Stand. When I put in a claim for my damaged Night Stand, NVL sent me a check for $329.99. From the $830 (the cost of my night stand before taxes), they deducted $500.01, and sent me a check for $329.99. You figure this scam out. We paid $410 for their insurance, they damaged my $830 night stand, and all I got out of it was $329.99. I am not understanding how NVL is allowed to rob people like this and get away with it. The insurance cost me more than they paid me for the damage to my night stand. Stay far away from this company as possible and don't ever purchase their insurance, because it's a scam. I did better taking my chances with no insurance, because I paid them more than I got back. In other words, I paid NVL $410 to damage my furniture and they compensated me a whopping $329.00.
So many of us have had a bad experience with movers when going cross country ( including myself ) however this time with National Van Lines it was totally different. They were completely transparent, honest, efficient, communicative and NOTHING came damaged. We went from close to Orlando, Flor. to Norwalk, Ct. and our driver was the same person going and coming. If you want to work with someone sensational ask for Moxie- honest, friendly, so efficient, accurate and he made the move easy. Obviously there are other good van lines, but after working with National I don't really understand choosing another company other than National. Lewis Herman
A nightmare experience. They were the most expensive quote I received and unfortunately I did NOT receive the service I was promised. The driver was extremely unprofessional with several hours of delays on both pick-up and delivery dates with ZERO communication. The movers caused close to $1000 in damage to my furniture after they had me pay for full-coverage insurance and now refuse to take responsibility for the damage. I pointed out the damage to the mover and the driver immediately who apologized for the partner mover not being careful taking the items out of the truck. The driver told me I would have to call National Van Lines’ customer service line to file a claim. These people are only focused on creative excuses to avoid paying out claims. The worst kind of scam company. I am out $300+ for insurance on top of the near $1000 in damaged furniture I need to replace. I have moved SEVERAL times and have never had such a horrible experience!

My experience with National Van Lines and their and their sub (A2B Moving) was mixed. The driver that moved me from Seattle to Phoenix was awesome. Hands down the best I've ever worked with. The people who ran the company business side gouged me, straight and simple. I was guaranteed a NTE price for my interstate move, with a statement that the actual price would be based on weight if the weight was lower than the NTE weight estimated. I was told that once they took the load back to their office, they would weigh it and let me know what the new weight amounted to from a cost perspective. That never happened. They picked up my stuff, moved it 1500 miles and then told me they wouldn't drop it off until I paid the NTE rate. It was a weekend, so there was no one to talk to in the office. So I paid with the understanding that it would be made right. I immediately reached out to the owner of the business and never heard back. It amounted to close to $3000. Very disappointing. My advice to anyone considering this company is DON'T. There are plenty of good, ethical moving companies out there, and no reason to use one that isn't.
They lost an area rug and would not honor a replacement. Otherwise good.
My experience could not have been more perfect. National Van Line driver Kurtis was on schedule and FABULOUS, taking care to inventory and wrap before loading. National Van Line representative Michael from Father and Son Moving prepared all the paperwork in a timely manner, answering all my questions and ironed out all the details ahead of time. The delivery was also perfect and appreciated. 100% in every category!
It was good. Also, responded to similar survey just following move, 4 months ago.
The service and professionalism of your team members was excellent. If I had any issues at all, it would be that your team arrived 35 mins early at the delivery location and WE we not ready for them. All parts of the process, from initial communication to packing to loading to delivery and setup was carried through in the most efficient and courteous manner. KUDOS to the entire team!!
