Untrustworthy
**Disappointing after-sales service and concerns over warranty**
I had a solar system installed by AJ Renewables, consisting of solar panels, a 6kW EcoFlow inverter and two 5kWh batteries. Unfortunately, my experience with them after the installation has been disappointing.
When the system was originally installed, the electrician on site told me that I could have a Gateway installed by another company at a later date without invalidating my MCS certificate. I relied on that advice.
Now that I have had a Gateway installed separately, I contacted AJ Renewables about adding another battery. Their response was that they would not even provide a quotation because the Gateway had been installed by someone else. They also told me that EcoFlow had confirmed that the workmanship warranty from the original installation had been voided because the system had been modified.
I find this extremely concerning. I understand that AJ Renewables cannot automatically accept responsibility for work carried out by another installer. However, I have not been provided with a satisfactory explanation of why this modification should invalidate the entire workmanship warranty, or how it affects the original mechanical installation of the solar panels and their roof fixings.
My concern is straightforward: if a defect were to develop in the original installation, including the mounting system securing the panels to my roof, would AJ Renewables simply refuse responsibility because a separate Gateway had subsequently been installed? This has not been adequately addressed.
I also believe the advice given by their electrician should be taken seriously. If I was told that a Gateway could be installed later without invalidating my MCS certificate, I expect AJ Renewables to explain clearly why their current position appears to conflict with that assurance.
I am not suggesting that AJ Renewables should be responsible for another company's work. I am asking for a fair, evidence-based explanation of their position, clarification of the warranty terms and a willingness to distinguish between the original installation and any subsequent modifications.
At present, I feel let down by the after-sales service and the lack of a satisfactory explanation. I had hoped to return to AJ Renewables for further work, but this experience has seriously undermined my confidence in doing so.
I hope AJ Renewables will respond constructively and resolve these concerns, but based on my experience so far, I cannot recommend their after-sales service.
Great service
Great service, nice people, excellent workmanship, I didnt even need to get my hoover out as they cleaned up before they left
Disappointing experience and terrible aftercare
Disappointing Experience – Poor Workmanship, Property Damage and Appalling Aftercare
I don't usually leave negative reviews, but after our experience with AJ Renewables, I feel it's important to share an honest account of what has happened.
We had solar panels and battery storage installed on 14 July 2026. Unfortunately, what should have been an exciting investment in our home has turned into an extremely frustrating and disappointing experience.
The initial installation was carried out to a poor standard, with damage caused to our property, including our guttering. Although some of the original issues were eventually rectified, we have since discovered further broken roof tiles when my husband was repairing the damaged guttering.
What makes this particularly upsetting is that our roof was only eight months old at the time of installation. We now have concerns about the possibility of further damage beneath the solar panels, which we are unable to see or inspect ourselves.
What has frustrated us most is the significant difference between the company's approach to collecting payment and its aftercare.
AJ Renewables were extremely persistent in requesting the final balance immediately upon completion of the installation, which we paid without delay. However, obtaining the necessary installation documentation has been a completely different story.
Despite numerous emails and requests, we are still waiting for our DNO documentation more than three months after installation. This documentation is important because we wish to change energy suppliers and arrange a solar export tariff, allowing us to receive payment for surplus electricity generated by our panels.
Although some paperwork was eventually provided following repeated chasing, our most recent correspondence has been completely ignored.
We have now resorted to contacting the electricity network operator ourselves in an attempt to obtain the information that should have been provided as part of the installation process.
What I find particularly disappointing is AJ Renewables' repeated requests for us to leave a review.
Following the installation, we received repeated telephone calls and multiple text messages asking us to review their service. One message even stated that if anything wasn't perfect, we should contact them and they would "sort it immediately".
Unfortunately, this has not reflected our experience.
While the company appeared extremely keen to obtain a review, getting responses to emails about outstanding documentation and resolving problems has proved considerably more difficult.
I would have much preferred to be writing a positive review about a successful installation and excellent customer service. Instead, over three months later, we are still chasing paperwork and dealing with concerns about damage to our property.
We have paid a considerable amount of money for this installation and expected a professional service from beginning to end, not just until the final payment was received.
The lack of communication, poor workmanship, damage to our property and disappointing aftercare have completely overshadowed what should have been a positive experience.
At the time of writing, the outstanding DNO documentation and concerns regarding further roof damage remain unresolved.
Based on our experience, I cannot recommend AJ Renewables.
I sincerely hope the company takes this feedback seriously and addresses the outstanding issues, rather than simply focusing on obtaining customer reviews.
Beware of this company, cancelled order and still awaiting refund!
Beware of this company. Once they have your money you will have a hard time getting a refund if required. I placed an order for a solar system with battery storage and an EV Charger totalling £25k. David Young was great through the whole sales process. We went ahead and placed a £2500 deposit back in December 2025. The system was meant to be installed approx end of February/March 2026 which we were happy with as we were getting some other work done to our house. After several delays waiting on getting the approval passed and waiting to get the external fuse upgraded by SP Networks we were in July 2026. Many phone calls with Ryan and Sean in operations we were still no further forward. In mid July we decided to cancel the whole system as we had zero confidence in this company. I was then told that I would get my full refund returned with the week. We went away on holiday for 3 weeks and when I returned there was still no refund. I called them and Ryan asked for my bank details - I replied to the email address immediately with the info. Another week goes by and still no refund. I call them up and this time I speak with Sean the operations manager. He tells me he will get it dealt with immediately. Again, another few days pass and still no refund. Next time I call the phone system has changed and there is now a Customer Service line. I get through this time to a woman who I explain the situation and she is very nice and tells me she will speak to the finance department and get it resolved. Now it is the middle of August 2026. Another week goes by and still no refund. I call back and again speak to same woman in Customer Service - this time she tells me they didn't receive any emails with my bank details. I give her my details over the phone and she says she will pass it over to finance as soon as we get off the phone. This was a Thursday and no refund was in my bank by Monday. I call again and speak to the same woman, she tells me that she passed over the information to the finance department but they don't do any banking to Fridays, it Tuesday today so I will wait until Friday to see if it appears. If not I will be calling my lawyer to see what can be done as they have avoided paying me back for approx 2 months now and there is no end in sight. I am totally frustrated and would not recommend anyone doing business with this company ever!
Problems with getting service but excellent outcome.
Have had ongoing problems with getting acknowledged givenergy battery replaced which I accept is a grey area as givenergy are now in administration but as I paid A J Renewables as I understand it they have a responsibility.
Also realised a few weeks ago that there's a problem with the way the solar panels were supported, which after an inspection they accepted and we agreed a repair method. Inspite of an email and phone call cannot get an indication of when the repair will be carried out.
Following getting a response from them, with the explanation that the email had gone adrift which I accept as possible they set up a date for the repair. The people who came to do the work appear to have done an excellent job. They carried out the work in an efficient way inspite of atrocious weather with some extremely heavy rain. They were also cheerful and informative.
Ok, but lack of MCS Certification for Home Battery Install and communication isn't the best
We had an EcoFlow Ocean home battery installed at the very start of July 2026. This was to supplement our existing solar installed with our new build.
We signed for a 10kW system, 6kW inverter, and to relocate our existing EV charger to be separate from the battery (as we didn't want the hassle of managing that or draining the battery). This was quoted at £7,450 installed.
The final survey recommended that our existing inverter would be able to be used to avoid external trunking on the side of our house, which was great.
On installation day however, this wasn't something that could be done, as such we have black trunking down the side of our house. Not the end of the world, and it's a more efficient if not a less tidy installation.
The installation otherwise in terms of battery and other components was done to a good standard.
The end was a little rushed, as such we've gained some materials and tools left behind by the team. I've since gone and tidied up some of the cable tie ends and bits and pieces around the site, but the system works as advertised.
Unfortunately, I have had some issues with after sales support. Having raised issues both by email and telephone I've not had any response, and I've made sure to give it a couple of months before writing this review to give adequate time to respond.
Firstly, AJ Renewables are only MCS certified for Solar installations (though their website states "MCS certification ensures that our solar panel AND battery storage installations meet strict quality and performance standards").
It's a disappointing omission, and something that was not raised even post-installation when I called to request information. Here I was told that there was no MCS certification for battery installations, and that it only applied to solar, which is not true. I have since confirmed the above directly with MCS.
In addition, despite requesting it, I am also yet to receive minor electrical work certification for the changes to our EV charger, addition of a new consumer unit, the change of inverter, etc. No handover documentation has yet been provided.
I'm still waiting on DNO documentation, although AJ renewables have stated this is due to a backlog with the DNO themselves.
So overall, a bit of a mixed bag I'm afraid. The system functions as described, but the pre and after sales support around this is disappointing.
An excellent experience
We initally had David out from AJ Renewables after a number of consultations from other solar PV providers. He was very knowledgeable about the system and installation procedure, particularly providing lots of detail about the work on the roof ensuring are no gaps between tiles and that panel warranty is kept intact with the fixtures. Following this we had Sean out to survey the electric install and we were very pleased when he said our preferred location of the battery and inverter was no problem.
Both Ryan and Kelly at the office were able to sort finance and arrange a very soon install date before our return to work. The job was carried out over two days and wouldn't even had taken that if we didn't need broken tiles replaced, which was included in the price.
The quote was very reasonable for a 22 panel system with 6 kW inverter and 10 kW capacity and it has been performing fantastically since (see attached photo). Before finishing up the Ecoflow app was set up by one of the electricians who took the time to show me how to operate.
We even received a thank you gift a which was a very pleasant surprise that arrived just a day after our MCS Handover pack.
Overall the whole team were all fantastic every step of the way, the work was to an incredibly high standard with a detailed report and I have complete confidence that the aftercare with 15 warranty will be top notch. In closing I can wholeheartedly recommend AJ Renewables to anyone considering a solar PV system. Thanks so much again!
Very helpful and honest company.
Very helpful and honest company.
Good workers, excellent job done by the electricians and the roofers.
Good kit, poor communications and aftercare
I had 16 solar panels and a 10kw ecoflow power ocean battery installed 8 weeks ago. The positives are good information and system design from David at the outset but issues began to creep in from the survey onwards.
The survey failed to spot the original 19 panel design did not fit onto the roof, leading to changes to the design as the roofers installed. The roofers did a great job with the first 8 panels, but the scaffold didn't turn up until lunch, so the fitting of the second 8 was rushed, with a return visit needed to finish the job properly. There was also a factory fault with the 6kw inverter but all credit is due for a speedy fix as this was promptly swapped in 2 days.
Aftercare communications have been terrible. Repeated calls were needed to get the scaffold removed- it was finally taken down after 6 weeks with no notice. Eight weeks on I have no paperwork or MPAN, so I'm missing out on payment for generated energy. I have emailed and called several times over the last 5 weeks, but never receive a call back or email. This companies comms are and aftercare are terrible!
Very poor experience
Whenever an issue was raised I was the one having to do the chasing. They are very good at making the right noises when you speak to them but they do not follow up. Examples:
- waiting for the MPAN/DNO from them in order to start making money from my solar generation: waited 6 weeks and heard nothing, so contacted AJ renewables and was told they'd chase it up straightaway; heard nothing for another *2 months* so contacted the energy supplier (took me 5 mins) and they said the details had been available two weeks before I'd first contacted AJ about it - so AJ made no effort to find this info despite saying they would, and I missed out on 3 months of generation returns (why didn't I do this earlier you ask? It was something AJR said they would do as part of the installation process, and I didn't realise it was something I could do as the end consumer)
- initial installation was delayed, was promised that it would happen the next day, but then only the sparky turned up but no roofer
- one roof had tiered levels so full number of panels could not be installed there. It's pretty obvious but was not picked up in the site survey
- issue with electricals (unrelated to the install as it turns out) but phoned AJ to let them know and ask their electrician to speak to the emergency electrician I'd had to call out, so that they would know the issue before continuing the installation. Lady on phone promised this would happen, but when their sparky turned up later in the week they had no clue about any of this
- At no point did they follow-up with any update apart from when I contacted them
I have to say I have found the whole experience of dealing with AJ Renewables to be way below my expectations. At every stage I have had to be the one chasing them up, be it getting the scaffolding removed in a timely fashion (3 weeks!), the electrics set up correctly, the organisation of the MAPN/DNO, communications being passed on to staff before arrival on site.
At various stages promises and commitments have been made (roofer will be there tomorrow, scaffolders will be there this week, we will get our electrician to speak to your electrician, we will look into the MPAN delay), all of which have been broken or not followed up on.
Since the panels were installed and I paid the invoice, there have been no active updates *at all* from them. At no point has anyone contacted me to update progress, or simply to ask if I am happy.
I have had several neighbours who have seen the panels asking me about the process, who installed them, and would I recommend the company. I leave it to you to guess my answer.
From the very first call to completion.
From the very first photo call for information about solar systems the staff of A. j Renewables were professional and knowledgeable. The Electrician and installing team were professional and tidy, cleaning away all rubbish.I would recommend this company.
This company is not MCS certified fo battery install
This company is not MCS certified for battery installs, ive recently had an issue with a Givenergy battery they installed and its been 3 weeks and no reply. The installation was subcontracted despite them saying it wouldn’t be. I have a fault with one of the batteries supplied when it gets to 20% it stops output as cell 5 drops to about 2.8v while the other 15 cells remain at 3.2v , i provided proof and they have not responded to my email.
Despite Givenergy going into administration under the consumer protection act my contract is with AJ as they supplied the equipment and I will likely have to go down the smalls claims court route.
AJ Renewables Solar panel install
After looking at different companies to supply and fit a solar panel installation I settled with AJ Renewables.
David the survey engineers came out and explained the process and supplied a quote. So I had a 5.5Kw system with 10Kw battery installed. The team who turned up on the day to do the install were great. They were respectful of the property, explained everything that they were going to do and carried on with the job.
They tidied up after them and left the area they way they found it. All through the install I had no issues with the team. The system installed, they showed me the app and advised that any question with it then just contact them. The following day I had a follow up call from the team to see if I was happy with everything and again not to hesitate to contact them if I had any question over the app or the system. Subsequently they have been in to the app and made changes to the system to improve its efficiency of the system. I am happy with the service, communication and after sales support I have received from AJ Renewables. I would recommend anyone looking for a solar panel or battery installation then give them a call.
Ecoflow Power Ocean System
We had a 14 panel and 10kw Ecoflow power ocean battery installed, from the first contact through to installation AJ have been very easy to deal with, Hats off the the install teams of roofers and electricians who were all excellent. First weeks generation has been good and looking forward to seeing the export payment helping to offset a little of the investment once the G99 application goes through.
We had a eco flow power ocean system…
We had a eco flow power ocean system fitted - guys who fitted it and commissioned it couldn’t have been any nicer. Would highly recommend this company. From start to finish everything went smoothly 😊
Fantastic Solar Experience from Start to Finish
My experience with AJ Renewables has been fantastic from start to finish. Spending over £13,000 of your hard-earned money is never easy, but I see it as an investment for the next 20 years — and likely much longer. Spread over 20 years, it works out at roughly £1.78 a day, if my maths is right. A large latte from a well-known coffee shop costs close to £5, and I’m already saving around that amount every day compared with my pre-solar electricity bill.
The team at AJ Renewables can help you make real savings on your electricity costs — and it’s worth remembering that what I’m saving today could increase as energy prices continue to rise.
My installation was completed within a few days and involved only minor disruption to the house. The team went out of their way to accommodate what I wanted, worked professionally throughout, and left no mess behind. The house and garden were left exactly as they found them.
If you’re unsure whether solar is right for your home, speak to AJ Renewables. They won’t try to sell you anything you don’t need or won’t benefit from. They answer questions honestly, make you feel like a valued customer, and design a system tailored to your property, household, and energy needs.
Solar isn’t cheap, but reliability, professionalism, and quality rarely are.
Want solar but not sure where to start? Get AJ Renewables in.
For transparency, I paid for my entire installation myself — nothing was sponsored or supplied free of charge — and my installation can be viewed on AJ Renewables’ website.
.
Good communication throughout and after…
Good communication throughout and after install. Very professional job and would highly recommend.
do not pay their invoices!
If you are considering working as a subcontractor with AJ Renewables, I strongly recommend against it. This company do not pay their invoices. We completed two scaffolds in our area for this company in early February, and have not yet received payment for the work. I have lost count of the number of emails and phone calls we have sent requesting payment for our services. On the last phone call, we were told that there would be no effort to make remittance. We have asked to speak to the director and have also been told that they will not speak to us.
We are a small, family-run company, not a big corporate entity that can suffer from a lack of payment.
Extremely disappointed and running out of options to attain remittance.
Good company to work with
