Happy with my purchase!
I purchased clover seeds and birdsfoot trefoil seeds in June and sowed them a couple of weeks ago after having kept them in my fridge since delivery. I’m pleased to say that the germination rate is high and compared to other sellers the cost is competitive. The packaging is biodegradable. What’s not to like!!!

Very pleased
Very pleased with service. My order was dispatched on the same day and arrived with Royal Mail in 2 days and the shipping was free. Obviously haven’t had a chance to test seed germination but they look good. Looking forward to sowing some green manure on my allotment this year. A great selection and very reasonably priced.

Poor germination compared to other suppliers .
This company doesn't guarantee reasonable germination rates .Their small print puts the blame on factors other than poor seed, says the customer is on their own .That effectively means they can sell poor seed and you have no comeback. I was fooled by the website. They run the operation from their own home on a housing estate and are licensed to resell seeds, not produce them. Two out of eighteen tomato seeds germinated compared to great rates for seeds from other sources sown exactly the same .Two communications ignored as I expected after reading their get out clauses .This company buy in seed and re- sell it .In future I will buy directly at half the price from a seed company that listens to genuine customer complaints Beware and steer clear You can buy good seeds cheaper from firms with more reasonable terms .

Laura, we are ‘sow’ deeply disappointed that you tried to contact us over the bank holiday weekend when we were closed and therefore unable to respond.
Your 1st message was sent at 22.20 on Friday 29th April.
Your 2nd message was sent at 22.53 on Saturday 30th April…some 24 hours and 3 minutes later.
Your Trustpilot review was submitted on Monday 2nd May, a bank holiday.
We do make our working hours visible on the contact form page which I guess must have been overlooked.
I would like to clarify some of the points that you have raised as based on your statements you clearly do not work within the seed industry and therefore will not have an understanding of the workings of the industry.
“Poor germination compared to other suppliers”
- This is impossible to measure without comparing apples with apples, pardon the pun
- Every batch of seeds that a licensed seed merchant purchases and resells has to have its own unique batch number so that it can be traced
- Even if you were to compare the same variety of seed from one supplier versus another, they would likely be from different batches, different suppliers, possibly different years, and possibly from different countries
- I notice that you bought 2 other varieties of seeds from us which I assume you were happy with

- Correct we don’t guarantee any germination rates and nor does any seed company in the UK as it’s impossible to do so
- Nor do we make any claims that we do guarantee germination rates
- We find that by purchasing quality seed from quality sources that meet DEFRA standards, we do not need to offer any such guarantee
- As we are a DEFRA licensed seed merchant all of our seed is fully traceable, this means that the seed has been tested at the grower and again when it is imported into the UK
- All licensed seed has to pass a minimum global germination standard before they can be sold to the public

- Unlike many other seed operators, we go to great lengths to provide detailed sowing instructions on our website, on our packets and additional detailed growing guides

- Our license does not cover us growing seeds, nor do we make any claims that we do
- Every licensed seed company in the UK resells seed
- Over 95% of the seed used in the UK is imported from around the world
- The UK does not have enough land and labour to grow all of its own seed

- We have explained how deeply saddened we were that you chose to communicate with us outside of business hours and did not give us a chance to rectify the situation
- We do not have any “get out clauses” on our website, like all reputable online retailers we have terms and conditions which are freely available to read on our website

- Yes there are many people selling cheap seed on the internet
- Not many, if any at all, are licensed seed merchants
- Therefore you have no guarantee of what seed you are buying and where it has been sourced from
- Caveat emptor!

- Correct once again you can indeed buy seeds cheaper from other sites
- We have over 200,000+ satisfied customers and many of them return on a very regular basis

Terrible company, avoid at all costs!
made an order 3 weeks ago, was sent a dispatch that rudely stated not to contact them for at least 2 weeks over delivery. After 2 weeks I contacted them asking where my seeds were, received no reply. A week later I contacted them again and again received no reply.
Absolutely shockingly bad service, would never use this company again and will have to speak with citizens advice and take further action.
Over 20 working days later and still haven't received a refund or reply.
As anyone can see from the rude foul responses from this company, you should avoid at all costs!

In all of our order confirmations we highlight that it can take up to 14 WORKING days to deliver the item. There is nothing that we can do until after 14 WORKING days for 2 reasons: 1) Due to COVID issues it is taking, in some exceptional cases, up to 14 WORKING days for orders to be delivered...contrary to popular belief we do not drive up and down the UK in a little red van delivering orders...nor are we called Pat and we don't have a black and white cat either...once we have handed the order over to Royal Mail it is out of our control...and yes you may well be getting mail delivered in the meantime, but the Royal Mail network is large and complicated and not all your mail goes through the same hub, and 2) Royal Mail will not issue compensation for lost mail until after 14 WORKING days.
So in summary:
1. Your order confirmation highlighted 14 WORKING days and not to contact until after 14 WORKING days
2. You contacted us twice and we replied to your second email, even though it was within 14 WORKING days
3. You placed an order on the 27th October which is not 3 weeks ago
4. Based on waiting 14 WORKING days we advised you that we could take action after 18th November, which is 14 WORKING days after dispatch...as per our order confirmation

This is my 1st time Buying from SOW SEEDS but it won't be my last thats for sure, all the seeds germinated and are all fruiting., 1 of the Armageddon chilli plants has 56 chillies and a futher 30+ chillies forming meaning i will have over 80+ Armageddon chillies just from 1 plant and i have 7 different chilli plants growing.
I will ONLY be dealing with SOW SEEDS from now on.
Amazing family run company.

Very sorry to hear that you havent received your order. We have checked and can find no communication from you against you're email address. Royal mail do continue to have pockets of service issues, which is obviously outside of our control. We have issued a refund.
Poor customer service.
I ordered several packets of seeds which germinated OK but only 1 out of 8 courgette seeds germinated. I sent a photo of the ungerminated seeds after I dug them up. They replied I could not have planted them correctly. I have planted courgette seeds for many years and replied to them I had followed their planting instructions. Still waiting for a response. First time I had used them, not sure I will again. Poor customer service.

It was good to hear that the other 6 packets that you bought germinated well.
We have not received feedback from other customers to suggest that there was a problem with the batch of seeds, sorry.
We know how frustrating it is for seeds not to germinate. We grow ourselves and suffer this same challenge. In fact the great Monty Don has demonstrated the same problem live on Gardeners World.
No seed can be guaranteed to germinate 100%.
Every seed that we sell has to reach a minimum germination rate that is set by the International Seed Federation, and because we only trade with established and reputable UK seed merchants, all the seed that we sell has had to undergo seed germination trials to ensure that the ISF levels are reached, as a minimum, before that batch of seed can be sold. All seed is tested twice before sale.
When you then consider all the factors that can affect germination rates such as temperature, growing medium, water, light, location, localised weather conditions etc. it is just not feasible to determine that unsuccessful germination level is solely down to the quality of the seed as there are many other variables than can and do impact germination.
With all these factors in mind we cannot therefore guarantee the germination rate of our seeds. We do what we can to ensure the best chance of success:
- We buy from approved and registered UK sources
- We only buy pre-tested seeds
- We store seeds at the optimum conditions
- We frequently purchase fresh seed
- We provide detailed sowing instructions
Ultimately seed is a product of nature and reflects such characteristics and this can be frustrating and disappointing on occasions.
Hopefully given the success of your other seeds we will see you again in the future.
Delighted First Time "Sower"
As a first time "sower", I have been delighted so far with everything. I've followed the instructions on the seed packets to the letter, found that there have usually been more seeds than shown on the packet, have had good and/or 100% germination rates with all the seeds, and am now on the potting in stage, which again is clearly detailed on the seed packets. The pleasure of seeing these tiny seeds grow is very satisfying, and can highly recommend them.

Discovered this company during lockdown when we couldn’t get seeds from our normal supplier.
Speedy delivery, and 100% of the beans we ordered germinated. 98% of the other seeds. Amazing in such a cold Spring. They will now be my go to firm.

The item shipped was not what I ordered and when I contacted sowseeds I received an insincere reply informing me in essence that I should have checked the FAQs!! I mistakenly thought that “add to basket” was exactly that but apparently not!

Correction your email was abrupt and insincere. The refund offered was based on returning the seeds at my cost and the red was added after I placed my order! Sadly I am not the only review that has called your customer service into question.

If I could take a moment to correct your feedback...the item in question, Tomato Sungold, had a statement in bold red letters on the product page stating that we were out of stock and that all orders would be switched to Honeycomb. We politely replied to your email pointing this fact out, without having to go to FAQ's, and we also offered you the opportunity for a refund, which you have declined.

Hot Chillies
I used this company last year and had some outstanding chillies. Seed germination rate probably around 98%.
October last year I ordered some different seeds, Carolina reaper and Lemon drop among them. I put these into the propagator 10 days ago as they need a longer growing season, and so far 15 of the 16 have germinated. Quality is superb. Thanks
